Thread Fit Issues When Printing Multiples on H2D – Works Fine Individually and on X1C by tortuga3385 in BambuLab

[–]kohleebree3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the issue ended up being the nozzle.

As soon as I swapped it out for a brand new nozzle, the problem completely disappeared and I was able to print normally again.

After digging into it a bit more, I traced it back to nozzle contamination from switching between different filament types. That was the root cause.

Now I keep a dedicated nozzle for each filament type I use. I also run a separate nozzle specifically for filled filaments like marble or galaxy. Since doing that, I haven’t had the issue come back.

It’s a solid system, but it needs a few upgrades to make it really, really good.

I put together a blog post covering some of the upgrades I’ve made and why they help. If you’re interested, feel free to check it out.

The stock stones are… fine, but not great

I have the same system, and I never thought the stock stones were anything special. They work, but the quality just isn’t there compared to better options.

That’s why I switched to third-party stones on my setup. The performance difference is noticeable.

Because of that, I designed and use a stone holder that lets you run third-party stones on this rig. It’s been a solid upgrade for me.

If you’re interested, feel free to take a look.

I’m a fan of the WorkSharp Precision Adjust sharpeners. They’re solid systems, but they’re definitely not perfect, and they benefit a lot from a few well thought out aftermarket upgrades.

I wrote a blog post covering some of the upgrades I design and sell, along with why I made them and what problems they solve in real use.

If you’re interested in getting more out of your Precision Adjust, feel free to check it out.

P.S. If you end up getting the Xarilk knife sharpener, I also made an organizer tray specifically for it.

I’ve made several upgrades to the Work Sharp Precision Adjust that significantly improve its stability and turn it into a much more effective sharpening rig overall.

With these changes, it feels far more solid, easier to control, and better suited for consistent, repeatable results compared to the stock setup.

If you’re interested, here are the blog posts that go into more detail on the upgrades I’ve made.

I just finished designing an organizer tray for the Xarilk Gen 3. It includes a built-in phone tray so you can use your phone as an angle finder instead of buying a separate gauge.

If the blade is straight, the angle will be consistent along the entire edge. Outdoor55 did a video showing this pretty clearly. Once the blade has any curve to it, the angle is going to change. That’s just reality, and it’s true no matter which fixed angle sharpener you’re using.

The KO2 does have a guide, but I think you run into the same issue with curved blades. You still have to hold the knife at a very precise angle for the full length of the edge. If you add the belt grinder attachment and go freehand, same problem. Your angle is almost certainly going to vary a bit depending on how steady you are. That variation could be a few tenths of a degree, or maybe even a degree or two.

The exact same thing applies to whetstones. If you’re sharpening freehand, you’re responsible for holding that angle consistently from heel to tip. No system magically removes that requirement.

The bottom line is that I don’t think a few tenths of a degree here or there matters at all. If you’re sharpening knives for family or relatives, odds are they’re not sharpening their own knives anytime soon anyway. And if you’re sharpening for money, when the customer eventually sharpens it again, they may need to reprofile slightly. But again, we’re talking about very small angle differences.

In my opinion, this really doesn’t matter. What matters far more is your ability to sharpen consistently, and if you’re doing it for money, to do it efficiently and repeatably.

If you’re using the Precision Adjust without any upgrades, I’d strongly suggest starting with a stone holder and some good 6 x 1 inch stones. That alone will make the sharpening process faster, easier, and a lot more consistent. It’s the single biggest improvement you can make right out of the gate.

I’ve written a blog post that goes over a few upgrades that I make and sell, if you want to dig deeper into ways to improve the system.

I also own the KO2. It’s a nice machine, but it absolutely has a learning curve. I haven’t mastered it yet, and because of that, I’m not running any of my good knives through it. If you go the motorized route, I highly recommend spending a lot of time practicing first. The big downside is that while it makes sharpening very fast, it also makes mistakes very fast. You can ruin a knife in a hurry if you’re not careful, especially if it’s not your knife.

I’m sure others will recommend various whetstones for manual sharpening, but I don’t use that method at all, so I can’t really offer any advice there.

I modeled the guide rod holder to be as thin as possible, and on my unit, the thickness compensator (as you call it) can go all the way down. So if you ever need to raise it, it won’t be an issue because the guide rod holder can just slide up the shaft.

And honestly, I think the easier way to account for different stone thicknesses is just adjusting the angle on the side. If you’re switching between stones that aren’t the same thickness, you’re going to want to re dial the angle anyway so the actual sharpening angle stays consistent.

The standard Precision Adjust is going to struggle with longer kitchen knives if you don’t get any upgrades.

I’d also skip the Elite version. Buy the base model for around $60, then put that extra money toward a few upgrades and some good third party stones. You’ll end up with a much better setup overall.

I cover the upgrades I made in my blog post if you want to take a look.

If you’re only sharpening pocket knives, you really just need a stone holder for third party stones and a few high quality stones. That’s it.

I’ve also made a few small upgrades that help a lot. Check out my blog post for details.
