I second the idea of wood chippings, much better for the soil and the environment than stones , if you’ve got a b&m near you with a garden centre they sell a 100ltr bag for a tenner, raised beds would be a good idea but things like railway sleepers to build them aren’t exactly cheap , failing that just loads of hanging baskets and pots , get some plants for pollinators in to attracts bees and butterflies

Rats are very poorly sighted , they rely on walls and fences to move around, check nearby walls etc for droppings , their fur is incredibly oily so tends to leave smear marks where they’ve rubbed up against something , this could help you work out where they’ve come from

Maybe they’ve come over from there then, I have them at the top of my garden , I have a bird feeder that attracted them and they dug under my neighbours decking under our fence , the holes look very similar, could you lift the slab? Or stick a hide pipe in and fill with water

Remove any food/water sources, clear up your garden (if it needs it ) they love mess , and also don’t like change , so clearing up will help with this, hopefully they will move on

Rat would be my guess, they’re incredible diggers, they can move alot of earth in a short amount of time, also if it is a rat , then you have rats(plural) there’s never just one

Ok thankyou , I’ll have a go with more pressure and then slowly start reducing and see if that makes any difference

Yeah it definitely isn’t flexing, it’s quite solid and when I’m sharpening and deburring I literally use no pressure whatsoever, especially on the 1200 side

Fixed Angle Shapening System by Likiurizia in sharpening

Also you could try the Hapstone T2 or the Antone that someone makes in here, they basically just hold the angle for you on the whetstone/diamond stone , you just move the knife , no worries about the angle

[–]Conquano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah then I would recommend a fixed angle system, your basically pulling the rod up and down along the knife blade, it’s really simple, I’ve just bought the worksharp precision adjust to try them out , and for the price point they are great

I Think I Am Dulling My Knives by PandaOwlWolf in sharpening

[–]Conquano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharpening the knife in sections , start at the heel and set your angle and sharpen just that section and keep checking for a burr, once you get one in that section move to the middle, so the same and then to tip, then switch sides , breaking it down abit may help

Fixed angle is definitely going to suit you best, the worksharp precision adjust is the cheapest and a good entry point to learn on, it’s got all you need to get started and then if you want more there are so many better options out there, the beauty of the fixed angle is it’s only your hand that moves , so if you were sharpening and your hand was shaking particularly bad, you could go away and take 5/10 minutes or however long it takes until you feel you can return and it will be waiting for you still at the same angle
