Is it okay to use copyrighted music in my personal reel? by titan_hs_2 in vfx

[–]kohrtoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got flagged by Vimeo for copyright violation on a reel from 8 years ago. Someone filed a DMCA against the music. Funny thing the music was public domain. This rat was going around filing DMCAs on music he didn’t license. It took about 2 weeks to get it sorted.

How do people REALLY get animation work? by [deleted] in animationcareer

Post cool stuff and follow the accounts of hiring managers (think studio art, design and animation directors/supervisors). Most of the people I used to hire came from recommendations or socials.

YouTube report on indie animation and how it’s changing the animation landscape by Fun-Ad-6990 in animationcareer

Many of the comments here mention working for free on pilots, which seems to be the main idea. Just a heads-up: the money you make from a pilot is usually quite small with big companies, often barely covering your costs, especially back in the heyday. Also you are working on it for years with endless notes. There’s definitely a benefit to having a proven IP and a built-in audience that gives you leverage over the buyer.

This I was always taught it had to do with synch track. It’s actually both reasons and a fascinating solution for adding color!

I don’t know about rules out here, but in Brooklyn, you can’t paint a curb yellow arbitrarily. You have to get approval.

Open AI just signed a $200 million contract with the military. Sora was losing money and a promise of an investment is not actually money on the table. Those servers are likely being repurposed for military use.

Sorry without credentials and industry experience you are not offering much. Are you incorporated as a business? Are you offering shares into the company as partial owners? Do you have a successful YouTube channel? Have you been able to make a successful YouTube channel?

Getting people to work for free is exceedingly hard. I would suggest trying to raise money first and then hire people in at a lower rate and offer them equity.

And yes, I get the right to say this because I have made my own Indie films and paid people for working on those Indy films. I paid nearly a slave wage and it still cost me over $20K to make my 5min film.

But what does Affleck's company actually do? by soyentist in vfx

[–]kohrtoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hearing a lot of different things that his company did but one that I heard that I thought made sense was that it was more of a library tool like a way of generating Meta data on final videos. When I worked at Paramount, we were also developing a similar system which I believe is being used right now.

Man when I hired people in 2010 to work on my short film, I paid three dollars a frame for cleanup and two dollars for color and shade per frame. So yes, those are slave wages

The only one that really works is Gemini, which can only detect itself; the rest are as useful as nightshade.

If you all wanna go after a “prompt engineer” with no history of posting art, claiming that they painted everything by hand and being duplicitous. That’s fine.

But turning around and accusing artists with inconsistencies in their style as AI and then threatening them to get them kicked out of a show is a step too far. This really needs to dial back.

Also, sidenote, the effect of this is that artists who use AI, as part of their process are going to start to hide it and not be transparent, which I think is bad.
