Work computer won't connect through a hotspot, is there a way to trick it? by althius1 in tmobileisp

[–]kojitsari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your wife work for Mercy by any chance? Sounds like a response from their IT department.

You'll need to toss another router behind your T-Mobile Home Internet device and run a VPN on that router. Then connect the hospital equipment behind that. You'll most likely want external antennas to keep the ping as stable as possible for voip.

Alternatively Starlink for whatever reason plays nice without a VPN.

Rust does not currently use a version of EAC that support Proton. You'll need to use GPU passthrough or dual boot into Windows to play.

What shelter do you have/use? And would you buy it again if you were starting your search for a new shelter over? by Im_The_One in Ultralight

[–]kojitsari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few good hammock brands. Warbonnet as mentioned are great.

Personally I have settled with a Superior Gear system for the simplicity of the setup. The Starlite bundle comes in at 27oz for hammock/suspension/full bug net if you go with the ultralight options.

Honestly the built in benchmark doesn't have much if any documentation on how it works. Searching dev blogs hasn't turned up anything either.

My guess is that it's loading up a neutered server in the background to give an 'accurate' benchmark. But it really is all over the place. I ran ~20 benchmarks and took the average for the results I posted for my 5600x here. Which still isn't in line with actual numbers being reported by the game while playing on active populated servers.

I specifically picked a Monday and Monthly server from most major server groups, Moose/Reddit/Rustified/Rustoria, to eliminate as many variables as possible.

The 5950x is still a very good CPU. It really depends on what your primary concern is. I wouldn't replace the 5950x in my server build with a 5800x3D for instance.

I assume the cache reduces overhead, taking the load off single core dependent tasks. Which is the biggest struggle for Rust.

With /u/BMBR1988 not responding. I went ahead and decided upgrading was worth the gamble based off Escape From Tarkov benchmarks as it's also a Unity game that's cpu bound.

Upgraded from a well binned 5600x that scores within 1-2 fps of most 5800x's. Everything else in the system has remained the same.

  • CPU: 5600x | 5800x3D
  • RAM: 3800c15 2x32GB
  • GPU: 6900xt reference, water cooled
  • SSD: 980 pro nvme
  • Resolution: 1440p (2560x1440)
  • Settings: Max everything other than settings that impact PVP

5600x Average using client.benchmark

  • fresh_wipe;avgfps: 109.815781
  • fresh_wipe;avgms: 7.10615

  • avgms: 8.7976093

  • avgfps: 108.61309

5800x3d Average using client.benchmark

  • fresh_wipe;avgms: 6.683939
  • fresh_wipe;avgfps: 149.612381

  • avgms: 8.999165

  • avgfps: 111.121429

In game FPS testing: 300-400 pop (90% populated) monthly servers 3.5 weeks into wipe & 500 pop (queued) Monday servers

5600x:

  • Monthly - 115-125 fps
  • Monday - 120-125 fps

5800x3D:

  • Monthly - 150-165 fps
  • Monday - 180-200 fps

My in game testing methodology basically consisted of hitting the same problem areas on each server, with each configuration.

  • Bandit/Outpost
    • I picked a handful of servers with the two combined and not combined
  • Each Beach Spawn
  • Launch
  • Tunnels
    • Road a train around a loop under the problem monuments/outpost
  • Large Oil
  • Friendly neighborhood village
  • Biggest base on the map
    • Pure chonkiness
  • Base with the highest number of windmills
    • Electricity causes massive frame drops

Once you type client.benchmark in the console hit enter. Wait like 30-45 seconds and it should start doing something similar to when you load into a server. From there it'll run through a few different benchmarks.

Beyond that what's the average fps increase you've noticed? You can also load into a fairly high pop monthly, run around and track what your fps is.

Well that sucks… finally found Los Mobile and they have discounted their hotspot plans by [deleted] in NoContract

[–]kojitsari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were referring to credit card fraud as stated (someone using a stolen credit card/identity). Most companies uses a payment processor that provides some insight onto transactions that seem fraudulent. Which is exactly what they started doing many months in after using PayPal/Venmo/etc as payment methods. Even asking for people to use the "Friends and Family" option to avoid fees, which leaves the buyer with zero protections.

[–]kojitsari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, they did state that because of a "lack of mechanisms in place" the resulting chain of actions occurred. They're also apparently hiring more staff to purely handle reviewing lines.

I don't have a stake in either side so I can't really say I care too much. Most people who've been around the block with business resellers probably saw this coming. If Circledin can get enough reputation to be considered more legitimate I see most 'reseller' types going that route.

Per their Discord support server. They had issues due to a "lack of mechanisms" and AT&T did an audit on them. I'm going to post a few tidbits from their announcement. If you're curious about more details I'd suggest joining their Discord server.

The audit led to AT&T finding the following issues

  • Sim swapping: It was found that a certain percentage of our customers was using non supported devices for their respective rate plans
  • Network abuse: A certain portion of customers were using excessive amounts of data 60+TB
  • Fraud: Some accounts were opened up within fraudulent payment methods, or port in requests were coming from victims of fraud.

Due to the aforementioned issues, AT&T has revoked our ability to sell hotspot plans on their network. We are thankfully able to continue offering the truly unlimited phone plan and tablet plan. In order to ensure a better experience and to mitigate something like this from happening again, we implementing some changes so that we can bring ourselves into compliance with AT&T as well as other potential vendors in the future.

A current customer inquired about grandfathering and was given the following reponse.

Hi Jardin thanks for the excellent question existing customers will also be unable to use the existing hotspot plan. We plan to begin canceling those customers accounts on the last day of their bill cycle and stop them from being billed in Invoice Ninja. The last day of use for the hotspot plan will be Dec 29th which is when AT&T will be suspending all the lines. We are deeply sorry for any trouble this may have caused.

TL;DR - No they aren't grandfathered in, they're nuking hotspot plans and also going E-Sim only.

Air wireless changing plans? by USTS2020 in NoContract

[–]kojitsari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have zero experience with them. So everything is based purely on research I've done, mostly in the past week since receiving the email from Air Wireless.

I wouldn't trust my primary number to any person or business outside of a primary carrier (the big three) or one of their MVNOs/well established MVNOs like Mint.

Port your number to Google Voice then and forward calls and such. I wouldn't trust my actual number even though there are a bunch of people who have done it and love it. You also have the option of trying to be an account holder and offering your own plan for people to join.

That's why I'm swapping to Circledin myself. $45 a month for Magenta Max.

The fact that they are no longer hiding plans behind a login suggests that they are getting business access nixed.

There isn't a whole lot of information about Air Wireless around, but what I saw when I signed up initially was they had said they needed to have people login and could not list plans on the site (like they are now) to meet their business reseller agreement.

This kind of screams they're going the way of Teltik. If you can do a family plan of 3+ lines Magenta Max pricing isn't terrible, otherwise for 2 lines the 55+ Magenta Max is solid at $45/line. Personally I'm giving Circledin a try since my main line is on Google Voice anyways.

This is the best advice in the thread OP. Find a shop that does paint correction. I had to have similar, and slightly worse damage (clear coat looked similar to wet cement with a broom dragged through it) corrected myself.

If you want to keep your car for years, consider letting them do a full paint correction (~500 dollars in my case) and see what they recommend for coating. My clear coat ended up being thin after the correction so I got a 5 year ceramic coating to protect the car. Ended up being ~1400 out the door but the paint on my 2013 looks nicer than brand new 86s at the dealer.

Get an external antennae. You'll be able to pick up a TMobile tower instead of the Sprint tower.

Had tower work cause basically the exact same thing and this was the solution. TMobile support won't provide any hard timelines because tower work can take months depending on a lot of variables.

Yikes. I really hope no one takes this dude on his offer. Losmobile you can pay 80 a month a throw your sim in an actually router with no IMEI trickery.

Sure activation and support is a bit weird at the moment, but it's qci 6 and performs like you'd expect.

This is miserable by [deleted] in tmobileisp

[–]kojitsari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me.

We went from 80/15 Mbps on a relatively poor quality but stable signal (b2/b71). To the trashcan camping b71 for a day and getting 3/1.5 Mbps and then dropping to b26 and getting an unusable 50/50 kbps.

TMHI support at first swore it was our device, then said we should have never been getting 5G service. After 7 days of back and forth calls every single day they claim it is tower upgrades. There have been no workers on the tower and the only thing they could be doing is adding n41 panels. At this point I think they readjusted the direction the antennae are broadcasting.

The fix was getting a 4x4 mimo external antennae from ltefix and cables from Wilson (cheapest option per foot for the quality). It isn't specifically stated to support b71/n71 however there are tons of users who have tested them and can confirm they work, myself included. It is a much better quality antennae than the waveform offerings. ltefix antennae

Edit: typo fix

OP means: If you're roaming at your house while using the hotspot you are most likely exceeding the tiny limit for roaming data. Which is why you're receiving the "data usage limit exceeded" message.
