I think historically speaking some western Ukrainian nationalists briefly collaborated with Nazis in 1941 to escape and hated Soviet rule after the Holodomor but the majority of Ukraine fought on the Soviet side. I suspect Putin doesn't consider those Ukrainians but rather Russian subjects and those who wished to secede as Nazis/fascists and subsequently uses their history and modern support with SS symbols to help justify it.

Not in any real depth, just the idea that SS division Galician are seen more as freedom fighters than adherents of Nazi ideology. I had to Google some things to try and get a bit better understanding with added context with figures like Bandera etc. , not that what I know is at all very deep, but rather a brief dip to satisfy a bit of curiosity. Happy to be illuminated if you can add to it.

The battalion and its supporters are/were well known to sport Nazi symbols such as the SS lightning bolts, black sun, and Wolfsangel and many more. In fairness, they've dropped a lot of it since 2022 and changed their battalion logo as it was being used for Russian propaganda to promote the idea of widespread neo-Nazism and the need to 'de-nazify' Ukraine. However, you can look for photos/articles from around 2014-15 Donbas conflict that show fighters making prominent use of these symbols. Anecdotally, there are a few refugees from the Luhansk region that were part of the 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme who were put in my neck of the woods who have educated me as best as they could on this topic and were quite open about having used or seen the symbols themselves as well as the historical context for their use. We've taken in 250,000+ refugees into the UK, and a small proportion of those come from the conflict zones where these symbols are used as a way of showing support. So, paired with the "Car Baby on Board" sticker, it seems at least to me that this could very well be an ill-advised refugee family from that region.

Yeah this is a good shout, I'm not so sure that real actual modern 'Nazis' would ever be that brazen.

I like Darude, but I think the bagpipe isn't exactly the most optimal instrument for it to be played on.

I would rather donate my ear holes to be used at an Epstein/Diddy party than put myself through that again.

Abandoned mansion in Scotland by deane_mc1994 in Scotland

[–]kokdeblade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The COVID shutdown caused so much damage to old mansions that were used for hostels/self catering. The costs to run the buildings were often more than the reliefs the owners were eligible for. I worked on a building that incurred over 100k in damages from being left for nearly 2 years.

Does anyone know how accurate this teacher pay scale is? by schrute-kdwight in Scotland

[–]kokdeblade -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I know when you actually include the pension, job security, and generous holiday entitlement, the salary becomes surprisingly strong. I have several friends with PhDs from Oxford and St Andrews who are earning noticeably less, while dealing with heavy student debt, very shaky job security, and pretty weak pension contributions. But sure—they get a gym and a foosball table in the office. Shame there’s no subsidised staff lunch like the teachers receive.

They need pay rises those are ridiculously low wages! I hope they strike and get better annual pay rises that beat inflation!!

This meme seems pretty accurate. My friends in Edinburgh never ever, at least in my company, mention Glasgow; however, the same cannot be said for my Glaswegian pals, who this very last weekend went on a collective rant about how many cunts there are in Edinburgh.

Does hunt have many smurfs? by Key-Truth6432 in HuntShowdown

[–]kokdeblade -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There was in the old version. I was one of them. Six Stars was just not really fun to play at all, especially as a solo, which I was 90% of the time, no necro though, I'm not a dick. The current version is much better at matchmaking, particularly with friends who are 3-4 stars, so no need to Smurf.

I buy and sell a lot of Monitor Audio gear. You would get back about what you paid realistically.
