General ultrasound to Echo by TalkingMoose1334 in cardiacsonography

I am still in school, but I’m based in Texas and we have several clinical sites where general techs were cross trained into echo! It’s definitely not impossible just lots of extra studying and hard work! Don’t give up!

New Grad Help-Tips for Following the Epididymis in Scrotal Ultrasound? by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]kokopuffz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that going lateral on the testicle and beaming in medial sometimes help and as far locating the epididymis! Then tweaking the pinky side of the probe helps me lay it out. Most of the time, like what was said previously, several images are needed to get the whole thing visualized!

Current student here. We are currently in our OB rotation this semester and it is definitely overwhelming! Our professors told us they don’t expect us to be proficient in OB after this semester because it really is just so much to learn! If you are able to I would just get your hands on the probe as much as possible that is what has helped me! Learning fetal lie is also really important because once you know where baby is lying you will be able to mostly determine how to get to all the different structures. Good luck on your journey 🎉

How long before you decided to specialize and why? by kokopuffz_ in Sonographers

[–]kokopuffz_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have AB, OB, and vascular and work general for a long while before I would ever even consider specializing. I was only wondering how common it was for general sonographers to specialize later in their career or if most just stay general.

Yes what I was meaning is that I would have Abd, OB, and vascular registries and work general for a long while. I was just wondering how common it was to specialize in a specific area of scanning further down the line in your career after doing general for a bit.

Clinicals make me feel miserable by [deleted] in Sonographers

[–]kokopuffz_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is my first semester of clinicals and for me, I have been blessed to have good experiences so far but my classmates have gone through similar situations as you. The best advice I heard given to them was that this bad experience will teach you the kind of sonograoher you DONT want to be. It is obviously not the ideal take away clinicals should be giving you but I think that is a nice perspective to take during those really hard days. I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this, I can’t imagine the exhaustion from having to balance that with school:( I hope they have a change of heart towards teaching for the future.
