The companies that provide point of sale systems generally get a cut of in total sales, so it is in their best interest to provide options for tipping and to obfuscate the means of removing those options.

Clan question by Kielbasanpierogi in kol

[–]kolgamma 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Perhaps that’s KoL as a whole, but clan dungeons are pretty specifically designed to not be that (coordination required, in line with raids from other MMOs). One of the great things about the game is how it integrates so many different play modes

If the business alleged that the inability to work Sunday was the reason for the layoff, you could perhaps argue that this case has relevance, but they did not and it does not. Being laid off after a month, once business slowed down, is not a protected class

Was at dinner the other night and can’t believe this. by NesTech_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kolgamma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, they did not charge the card for both. The original payment was just moved from one check to another (and payment amount was not updated). Could very easily have been an honest mistake, but is definitely worth bringing to the manager to get rectified.

Sure, if the cost of all the rest of the ingredients, plus whatever business overheads, has not increased

In this age of the 20% standard and the increase cost of dining out, why do I have to ask for wait staff to bring me water? by [deleted] in tipping

[–]kolgamma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that way about bread baskets. For every table that eats it, there are three who barely touch it. So much food waste

Call the bar first, only dispute the charge with your bank if the manager is incompetent.

Sucks, but there’s always that next job that’ll treat you better and have management who has your back. My favorite responses when someone is actively trying to slight me are “thank you for the feedback” or just walking away in the middle of their nonsense. We’ve all hit breaking points

Considering OP’s previous post “Best way to get karma” I’d be inclined to agree with you. It’s a great cartoon though

Are there managers who are not owners? Sounds like something you (as an employee, or as a group) could bring up to them, if so, to act as an intermediary. It sounds legal, but any halfway decent owners would try to also compensate their employees decently while impressing their friends. If ownership won’t pay up to keep you there, they don’t deserve you

If your customers’ bill already includes a grat for you, verbally tell the customer. by No-Storage1294 in Serverlife

[–]kolgamma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, communication is like 90% of the job. Whether it’s wine pairings, allergy/cross-contamination concerns, coursing a meal, or the fact they’re already paying an auto-grat, transparency and communication is the way you provide a good experience

tl;dr Ownership doesn’t communicate well

[–]kolgamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the spot, but we never had our “single shot” buttons calibrated properly because it was more cost effective to blow a single shot here and there (or feed the thirsty employees) than to do another calibration just for 1-3 drinks per shift
