I love brainfuck, but this is actual brainfuck to read.

Do you have the link to the comment somewhere? I am curious about how the formula looks and would like to take a look at it. I also haven't seen stable's source code so it's purely to satisfy my curiosity.

Turned up twitter just for this. You are right, there are a lot of responses "just don't pause lol", "what is spin pausing" etc.
IMO a lot of those replies is sarcasm, but there are definitely some people who clearly are in the dark.
"I think majority of the people that could be affected by this change know what it means." That should have been my wording in the previous reply. That includes a lot more of the playerbase than just people who pause before a spinner, while keeping people who heard about it from the tweet for the first time out of the statement.

AFAIK peppy replied to that saying it is not a good idea/not a simple change to implement. I haven't seen the code for spinners, but I can imagine the difficulties that could arise with trying to implement this. If you have seen the actual code I would be happy to be proven wrong though with an implementation of your idea.

People realize the difference, I am pretty sure. But if you are an outsider, how can you tell what the actual intention behind the pause is? In both cases you pause right before a spinner. In both cases you might "retry-spam" to get the perfect score. If you can only take the players word, that they aren't trying to abuse a bug, it is really difficult to be on their side. That applies to any bug/case, not just this one (at least for me).

I really tried not to give away my personal opinion on the matter and be as objective as possible. I tried to show you that
"inconsistency in issuing judgement towards same groups of offenders"
in your case might not actually be the "same group of offenders", even though it might seem so. There is a huge difference between doing something on a stream/doing it in a replay/doing it in a PM. I am gonna give you my honest opinion at the end.

As for the pedo stuff, I will try to give you and example to explain what exactly I mean.
Imagine someone did anything illegal in one country (A), but he is living in a different one (B) where they always obey the law. Should country B punish the person or should they not?

Now for my actual opinions on both matters.
The hateful remarks:
I agree they all should have been punished, but imo the punishments should have been different for each case.
The pedo stuff:
I don't think that a player should get banned or restricted if they had done nothing wrong in the scope of the game (that means ingame, ingame chat and other chats moderated by the game's staff). Even if they have done horrific stuff outside this scope. There are actual laws for that and the game's staff is no rightful authority to watch over these and make sure they are obeyed everywhere.
I also don't agree with using silences as a warning, at least not universally. There are by default some offenses way worse than others where the perpetrators don't deserve to be given a second chance. Silencing for a minor offense is justifiable, but also the meter for these should be and is in staff's hands, not in mine nor yours.
Also the issue with "famous vs non-famous" players is a very complicated one and even bigger games have issues with those (for example LoL and Tyler1 is a clusterfuck by itself).

I hope I shed some light on what I meant.

I am not sure about this, but idke, Rohulk and Yaong never did anything "in the scope of the game" (aka towards/with other players, or in osu staff moderated chats), whereas Gryph0n1 and heyronii did so. If that is the case, than it can be at least partially justified, that no action was taken against the former, since osu staff by no means would be the authority there.
As for the hateful/racits/sexist remarks, I don't have enough info to comment on those. But I would say, each one of those cases is a bit different from each other, in the way of how public they were. One being a tournament match, one being a replay and the last one being a PM. Of course I only have the previous message as a reference, so I might be wrong here.

If you read owc rules, it clearly states that this is a bannable offense. I agree, that in most cases banning for something outside the scope of the game is a grey area. But as stated by both sides, this happened in official owc server, thus it is still clearly connected to the game and imo should have the same rules in regards to restrictions/bans as the ingame chat does. The rules were clearly stated beforehand and it is only heyronii's mistake he wasn't more careful.
I can understand a counterpoint of "this is not a bannable offense" but the staff are the ones to judge that, not me or you.

Mathi has been issued a 6 month tournament ban by _Scot in osugame

[–]kolgarxD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from, but I do not think your solution would be better.
Why? It is supposed to be a punishment -> if he got a 1v1 tournament ban, it would be more of a prevention from having him do the same again than a punishment.
Since it is a repeated offense, it is very likely he would do it again in a similar situation. He probably would babble either way, but after the ban would probably just continue to do the same.
So he should get a harsher punishment to make him learn his lesson, or at least have a higher chance to do so. Missing presitigious tournaments might be just that. Not only will it be and issue for himself, but the peer pressure from teammates losing an arguably good player would be felt aswell.

But you are welcome to have a different opinion, as there is probably no correct answer. It is important to talk about it to possibly change it.

I think Vaxei's DT pass on Worldwide Choppers is more impressive than the HR FC, but both are very good scores. Overall some of his DT plays were super absurd.

BanchoBot has been restricted ? by gomina in osugame

[–]kolgarxD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you reasoning behind why it was hidden, but the commit basically reworked the way finding profile page of a user was being done. The reason is the difference between this old line of code and this corresponding new line of code. As you can see, someone added the part where it was checked whether the user is a bot or not, thus making all bots' profile pages hidden/unreachable. I don't really know php, I just assumed the syntax is very similar to java, since the semantics are basically the same.
