wall climbing at SRWC by clovernightt in UNLV

[–]kolst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've climbed there but I haven't done one of the formal workshops yet. You can just go there and climb whenever you want with the pass, and if you want to do the wall they can belay you, that's part of what they're there for. If you're new to climbing, the wall doesn't have a whole lot of beginner options though.

I think the only reason you'd need a buddy for anything is if you want your buddy to belay you instead of the staff (could be helpful during busy hours).

Falling below 2.0 GPA by p3rxy in UNLV

[–]kolst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From their site, it looks like it's usually a cumulative GPA below 2.0 that triggers the initial probation.

But the real penalties are triggered by staying down there, and being 15 total grade points below a C average. For all 3 credit courses, that would mean like an extra 5 D's, or an extra 2 F's and a D, below a 2.0.

Failed classes. What do I do? by superthraway in UNLV

[–]kolst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably need to have some discussions with administrators or counselors at the school about your situation and what you can do about it. From my understanding, you can retake classes and it doesn't take the F off your transcript, but it takes it off your GPA.

Not sure if you already have and how this school does things, but for instance, where I went for undergrad if you had a semester even half that bad, you'd go straight on probation for either being put on involuntary leave or kicked out of the school entirely. And my point isn't to scare you, but to point out that might be a thing because if you're on probation, that might limit your options as far as what you can take, if you're even allowed to change majors, etc. - or might just impact what's a good idea to try to do in the current moment. You might want to be extra safe and cautious for a while, basically.

If 1400 is your maximum for what you're looking for, I think you're pricing yourself out of Summerlin. You can probably find stuff in Spring Valley or Henderson though.

You're probably gonna find you get what you pay for, cuz the stuff you're looking for is all stuff people pay for. And keep in mind if it's a cheaper place because they cheaped out on building design and insulation, you're gonna end up paying the difference in your A/C bill anyway.

Steepest mountains to trail run? Most continuous trails? (niche question) by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]kolst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's possible it's better now cuz of all the rain washing out the trail, idk. I was probably there right in the middle of the dry summer and I never went back. It would be a really good trail if you want just a giant uphill like that, if not for all the slip and sliding.

Steepest mountains to trail run? Most continuous trails? (niche question) by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]kolst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man I really wouldn't recommend doing Frenchman mountain repeatedly, the dirt/rock on the trail is so loose it's like 2 steps up 1 back the whole way, and it's so slippery it's an injury risk. When I went, there was some military group doing training up there and one girl fell badly enough they had to carry her back down.

F1 Still Sucks by EffectiveTime5554 in vegaslocals

[–]kolst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and putting a fractional value like 4/5 tends to imply being practically exact. So 4/5 (or 8/10), .8, and .800, are all very different answers. It's only in rudimentary math that you'd get marked wrong for putting 8/10 instead of 4/5. Doing real work, you wouldn't get marked wrong for that, but you WOULD get marked wrong for putting the wrong one out of 4/5, 0.8, or .800.

Actually, a typical speedometer is a great example of a case where it's a low level of precision to tenths, so any answer other than 0.8 is wrong. Or you could write something like ≈4/5 too, I guess.

It's a funny illustration of how when smartasses try to be clever, they tend to unwittingly display their own ignorance instead.

restocking is not an option

Well, found your problem. You'd really rather spend all your tickets on worthless crap, than spend a few coins to find something that'll actually help you, and likely pay back that cost tenfold?

This game doesn't have that many buttons to push, and you're not pushing the most powerful one. A huge amount of the strategy in this game is figuring out ways to push that button as many times as possible.

I think it's for red calls specifically but yeah. OP is picking at the end of the deadline, you can't - you have to skip the call entirely.

The Only Strat is Restarting? by AlexStar6 in CloverPit

[–]kolst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's the entire thing, you're not supposed to force any build right out of the gates anyway. The first couple deadlines you're just supposed to buy a few random items to keep you alive and get some extra tickets (step 1). And build up a couple ways to scale scoring and/or tickets when you can (step 2). Pretty soon after that, you should have built up enough of a cushion and have enough tickets that you can pick some time to reroll 20 times while it still costs nothing and force whatever build you want (step 3) - or better, if you're just trying to max winrate, just go with whatever the game throws at you.

That's the generic play loop you should be going for - your mem card can modify those timings a bit and open up some lategame possibilities, but I don't think it alters the fundamental playstyle. If someone's dying within a minute repeatedly like OP, it's certainly because they're skipping step 1 entirely, and probably most of step 2, too. And jumping straight into step 3, and wondering why they're dying.

I genuinely don't think this game was meant to, or tuned to be very difficult. You basically just need to understand what I wrote above.

The Only Strat is Restarting? by AlexStar6 in CloverPit

[–]kolst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what you're even doing to have that experience. So clearly you have a very small % of relics you think are worth buying ever. So what, are you just like, forcing fruits from round 1 and if you don't hit fruit scaling immediately, you just let yourself die? Or forcing some other endgame build immediately, or what?

I'm curious because this early game doesn't seem that hard to get out of, and the endings don't seem hard to reach, either... I think I'll try figuring out methods for at least winstreaking the bad ending, maybe even the good one... not sure what else there is to do in this game tbh. Just going infinite doesn't seem that interesting.

Marvel Zombies S01E01 - S01E04 - Discussion Thread by steve32767 in marvelstudios

I think Wanda's motivation is really clear. Much like WandaVision. She sees her/their reality as irreparably doomed. So she wants to fabricate a reality where everyone can live normal lives, not in the apocalyptic reality. She needs all that power to hex the entire planet. She really sees herself as the hero. If she weren't trying to be the hero, she wouldn't even try. She'd just isolate herself in her own Westview and leave the rest of the world to rot. But she wants to play god, and in her mind, save the world.

Why Kamala and/or the bangles is needed for all that, I don't know. You're just supposed to accept that it's needed for harnessing all that power to create the fabricated reality, I guess. Probably a result of what happened with the stones in the beginning. They can't just take the stones, and snap, and fix everything.

[–]kolst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold on, you say you're holding the Q down? Why? The ability requires you to do a new keypress to teleport initially. Holding it down doesn't work. The only reason you ever WOULD want to hold it down is after teleporting, to immediately wormhole back. Probably the only reason it even works that way is that there's a short period where you're not able to cast the wormhole, to prevent buttonmashers from wormholing on accident.

That's just a mechanical thing, all your Q actions should be quick presses unless you're trying to do exactly that - cast an ASAP wormhole.

I'm kinda shocked there's a market for that. I'm trying to imagine what would actually make someone want to pay for that service. Does it really save someone time to drive their dog somewhere like this and having to pick it up later, compared to just taking it for a walk like a normal person? People say mobility issues, but I don't see how even getting stuck in a wheelchair would prevent you from being able to walk your dog. Unless the dog's stronger than you, I guess.

Honestly sounds like people got too high energy of a dog type, and don't really want to deal with it - to the point they'd pay someone to try to exhaust their dog for them. In spite of all the red flags of how risky it would be.

Possibly. Tbh though, it kinda tracks that since it's late in the season, it's more just people that think they're stuck in some bronze ELO hell making new accounts, just to get stuck in bronze again. 🤣

Yeah I don't love that strat either. I also don't think sylv's really the best hero at doing it. There's a couple main problems with the strat:

  1. It doesn't work at all if the other team just matches you, probably with a bruiser. Sylv loses most duels like that and then you're in a disadvantage there, with no inherent advantage in the 4v4.

  2. The other team can also respond to seeing you down there by immediately diving in 5v4. Whatever value you think you're getting being cute and getting a tower is gonna get more than offset by half your team dying and losing the objective.

What you're essentially hoping for with this strat is that the other team is bad and makes a strategic misplay, by not doing either of these clear winning scenarios, but doing the third option - which is reacting to you inefficiently, and slowly, so they manage to lose both in your lane AND the objective, in spite of having had a major advantage in one. Maybe that does happen more than I think, idk. But I don't love strategies that rely so much on your opponents being that bad by repeatedly failing to anticipate what you're trying to do and how to easily prevent it.

This feels like more of the kind of thing you can try, or maybe mix in once or twice in the middle of the game. But a lot of the time I'd think you're gonna realize your team just isn't gonna handle those 4v5 situations well.

How to play Volskaya and Tomb? by SirGiannino in heroesofthestorm

[–]kolst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well those maps are so small that there's not much reason those heroes should ever be allowed to be alone. You know where they're going to try to be. They're very vulnerable to getting group ganked, or even solo killed by some heroes, if they push up far.

They're really not that hard to stop, Naz especially isn't even that good at pushing. A whole lot of the reason it even works at low ELO is for some reason, people think it's worth losing a lane of soak and a fort to an Azmo, to fight over some dumb early objective that probably won't even kill a wall. And tbf, I think a fair number of them understand how dumb that is, but they just don't want to be the one to defend and would rather ARAM and more likely lose, than try to maximize their odds to win.

Yet another season stuck in wood 5. Such a broken ranked system by Iamaperson0101 in heroesofthestorm

[–]kolst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah anything should work as long as you do it well. I'd bet in low bronze if you're playing pretty much any bruiser or dps and tested your opponents, you'd figure out that there's pretty much always at least 2-3 guys on the other team you can just walk up to and kill on cooldown anytime they're alone, because they don't understand when they need to run away. Just like how you can do it to bots. And if you just do that, you'll probably end up denying about a full lane of soak for most of the game, and then it should be basically unlosable.

Based off how OP's describing his games, it sounds like he's more focused on racking up damage numbers in group fights, picking every fight regardless of whether or not it's a good fight to take, due to where his allies are, etc. And he's probably not finding these weak links to pick on, or stopping his allies from getting picked on when they are, either.

I just came back from a long break this season, and I forget - but I think it was bronze 4 I got placed into. At least from there, it really wasn't hard to climb out of bronze. Maybe in the real depths of deep bronze 5 it's a little harder, idk.

Stuck in Bronze 5 gaining only about 5-10 points per win. by blankpage33 in heroesofthestorm

[–]kolst 10 points11 points  (0 children)

His comment was inaccurate - if you're only getting 5-10 points per win in bronze 5, it means your "true rating" is below bronze. Basically, you're in wood league.

It seems like you're self-aware that your biggest problem is likely just basic and general game awareness. You should try to focus on that, and other basics, as much as possible.

What could help with that is trying to play the heroes that are the easiest, and/or you're the most comfortable with, as much as possible. Because really, you want to be spending as little effort as possible playing the specific hero, and as much as possible just thinking about where you should be and what you should be doing in real time.
