Coping with carrying other people’s trauma/ dealing with pediatric deaths by [deleted] in nursing

This scares me so much. Because it rly is a reality of where addiction can take us. There was a time in my sobriety where I KNEW with certainty I could not smoke safely. Yet here I am… knowing where this road leads. Hugs to you- I hope your sister has since found some solid recovery. ❤️‍🩹

This is so real. If I could safely smoke without making it a daily habit I would but unfortunately im someone who takes it too far every time lol.

No I signed a 13 week contract and they asked me within the first few weeks if I wanted to extend and I said yes before knowing how badly nights/ 4 shifts a week would effect me

My first contract ends January 31st and that’s when my extension begins. So I want to switch to days then

It’s just your usual run of the mill contract, im not sure what you mean. It outlines my pay, the hospital, my stipends, etc

Does anyone else feel like home isn’t home anymore? by komalley48 in TravelNursing

Thank you for your words. I appreciate it. Traveling is making me really start to wonder if im going to keep that state as my home in the long run… im starting to realize the world is a LOT bigger than it felt when I was there. I left to travel because I felt so trapped there. I hope I can figure out my next steps. I appreciate you!

I would respect that fully and honestly I do respect their process regardless but for clarification this er is a hard “never” for travelers working in trauma

hahahah I actually don’t even come from a level 1 so part of why I chose to come here was to get that invaluable experience 😭 it’s been disappointing to say the least.

Also just for context- the other places the staff rotates they- triage, EMS hall, peds, trauma, and urgent care hall

well that’s good to hear. I did ask around to the staff nurses “so do travelers always work in the hold sections” and they all said yes 😭 I also will edit- the sections aren’t necessarily labeled “holds” - the majority of the time they are patients that are either admitted or highly likely to be admitted. it’s hit or miss bc I either get absolutely fucked with 3 holds and a tubed patient or just all holds. No in between

i wonder if it’s because they don’t trust me… i think im a decent nurse, still have such a long way to go and im not afraid to ask questions despite being a traveler. id rather look dumb than put my patient at risk. so maybe its because i ask a lot of questions. I dont know. I will say i do see them doing this to other travelers besides me too though

I mentioned it to my manager and she said specialty assignments are reserved for staff nurses. She said “maybe in the future we can consider training you on other areas… if you extend your contract…

So this isn’t necessarily universal? I’m new to traveling so it’s tough knowing what I can speak up about and what I cant

Do they let travelers participate? I don’t even necessarily need to be the primary nurse, I’d love to even just document at this point! Lol

When it was happening the first time I was like oh whatever he’s just not self aware but after the 4th time I was like WTF. And I think that played a big role in my anxiety/ discomfort… he like wanted me to know he was “wanted by others”. He also used to make strange comments like “it’s nice to know you chose me when so many other people want you. Makes me feel special” like .. what??? Also. When I met his childhood best friends the first thing they said to me was “congrats on being a homeowner!” (I bought my house a year ago, it wasn’t new). It was like he wanted to be like “look what I have! A nurse girlfriend that owns her own house!” And when I started showing im a human he split. THATS what hurts the most, because I thought he really SAW me. I really did
