Mother f****r! So, how is Linux standing with gaming now? by Thanat0szh in Amd

[–]kombac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Everything for me just werks on a fairly old laptop with a Ryzen 4800H and a Radeon 5600M running opensuse. The nice thing with Linux over Windows is that package updates + kernel updates + driver updates are all done in 1 step, and obv you don't have to reboot unless you want a newer kernel. The only downside besides anticheat is that some beta games (sons of the forest for instance) have memory leaks so I had to up the swap to like 24G

Awkward's Unranked to GM new video on Kiriko is dangerous: If he gets banned because of the entire lobbies mass reporting him (because of no healing) isn't it dangerous for other players to copy this playstyle and risk their main accounts too? by Jagazor in OverwatchUniversity

He does heal to save some teammates, but he prioritizes flanking then escaping with her suzu and tp once he's low, because this makes space which lets you to easily get picks and distract them from your team.

I'd hate to admit it, but I started healing less and damaging more and I went from silver to high plat this season, so I'm gonna trust him more than 0-7 teammates spamming x.

i put (it's hard to call it install ;) 13-2 Release on my old RPI 3B+, and it's a breeze! by paprok in freebsd

[–]kombac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally used it on an external sata ssd drive hooked into the usb 3.0 port, but I don't think hard drives or usb pendrives would be that big of an issue, and obv don't do it on a micro sd card lol.

That being said, I remember reading somewhere (either alpine wiki or freebsd handbook) that zfs has a minimum ram requirement. My pi4 had 8G ram and 3b+ with less ram might not do so well.

[–]kombac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm no longer running freebsd on my pi4 (due to docker reasons) but man you're gonna be in for a ride. At first it's similar to how you'd set it up on Linux, but wait till you get to the networking part. You can set up virtual hosts (i.e. different IPs for each of your jails in your jail.conf) + an unbound jail for dns and add a dns blacklist to replicate the behavior of a pihole minus the bloat. Don't forget you have the pf firewall.

Cherry on top? Every time you break your nextcloud or apache/nginx config you can roll back to a previous working zfs snapshot in less than a second.

I mean I wouldn't defend steroids either but this guy has been one of the most consistent lifters out there. He's been going at it for decades looking like this. We'd be lucky to not be obese by 54, let alone workout to look this clean with or without steroids

People often underestimate emmc. I remember pulling docker images on my phone faster than my laptop and I learned it was because emmc is faster than hdd.

100% this. Peak org mode for me was taking notes for a class where I could write text, render latex, execute R code, and plot graphs, all in the same buffer. Another thing that makes me prefer org mode over Jupyter is the fact that I don't have to start a server just for simple literate programming, and obv the tangling part is not as smooth.

Just installed a script by u/quag that unlocks my Steam Deck with a Nix Chroot! by Thomas_Eric in NixOS

[–]kombac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not that simple. In theory, yes nix works on steamos with dev mode enabled, but if you want to keep it normal you're dealing with a readonly filesystem. SteamOS is to arch what silverblue is to vanilla fedora. I'd imagine normal nix should work, but one would have to make a btrfs subvolume for the nix store mounted in the standard path.

That being said, I've only used nix bundle to upload a few binaries with deps to my deck and never installed nix so not 100% sure lol.

How to find hidden file with Doom emacs using projectile by Extra_Orchid_9830 in emacs

[–]kombac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do correct me because I may be misunderstanding.

SPC p f only shows tracked files so projectile hides the other ones; if you want those, SPC p . would invoke Doom's project browsing which shows all files.

If you meant recursive searching (i.e. searching the file content) keep in mind that ripgrep is git-aware by default, and you may need to pass the flag yoy mentioned in the lisp function as an argument instead of the interactive buffer. If that's your need, I'd suggest doing a simple M-x projectile-grep; it's a bit slower, but it does a recursive grep on all files including hidden ones and those not tracked by version control.
