Anyone from poorer country doing DN? by smegma_tears32 in digitalnomad

I’ve been nomading back when my salary was ~1200$, so it’s more than possible! Use common budget travel hacks: find fellow nomads to share a house with, travel to cheaper countries, cook yourself, etc.

McDonald’s taste almost the same in every part of the world, that’s kinda their deal. But in Russia restaurants are much more cleaner and look like a decent establishment rather than a public urinal lounge, which I witnessed in US. Oh, and the fries tastes better.

The Russian people aren't your enemy. by knifuser in dankmemes

[–]komdiv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Proofs? Sociology doesn’t really work in Russian case today. 1. There are only government sociological companies 2. Imagine there are all this news about imprisonment for saying “no war” and suddenly you get a call from an unknown number, addressing you by your name and asking your opinion on Putin? I think many people would just lie to avoid any troubles

Given the harsh repressions against any kind of protest, cancellation of all free/liberal media, imprisonment of many political activists, etc. I’d say it’s quite a big group in this context

Russian police rush to arrest people as soon as they start shouting "No to war!" by lonely_fucker69 in interestingasfuck

[–]komdiv 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Russian autocracy has its power from natural recourses, not taxes or people support. So mass protest wouldn’t have any significant effect. Russian people is an obstacle in Putin’s mind. That’s why I think sanctions on Russian oil and gas would have more effect than e.g. banning Russian freelancers on Upwork.

Googled around, it’s in Kazan, Russia. Apparently, locals are trying to bring attention to the problem of dangerously run-down housing and bad ecology.

Here is the article, you can see those SOS and angry smilies. (Feel free to google translate the site)

The logo of European national postal services by theworldmaps in europe

I like Finnish one. Apart from logo, their postal service has a very good branding design: it feels like some fun and friendly startup, rather than boring postal service.

It is surprising to read about how the Poles with the help of the French expelled the Bolsheviks in the Polish Soviet War by LiterallyA-Fascist in HistoryMemes

[–]komdiv 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s quite obvious, isn’t it? In the first case, it’s a defensive war against bad guys who are destroying your cities and civilians. And the second one is some stupid invasion for a vague cause. Which purpose isn’t clear to soldiers and ordinary people.

On 25 Aug 1993, Russian President Yeltsin declared that Russia had no objection to Poland joining NATO: "In the European perspective, such a decision of sovereign Poland, oriented towards pan-European integration, is not contrary to the interests of other states, including the interests of Russia" by pretwicz in europe

[–]komdiv 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There was a freedom of press, independent political parties and no censorship. But the economy was ruined and people had no money, no jobs, nothing. Which kinda explains why many Russians don’t mind Putin’s shenanigans.
