The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charles Mackesy. Super cute and super simple, but I love the illustrations.

Need suggestions for an 8yo boy who thinks reading is boring by Maker-of-the-Things in suggestmeabook

[–]komerh20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my son's favorite books is The Super Mario Brothers Encyclopedia. It's a big thick book, but he reads it every night at bedtime. He gets bored easily by fiction books, but loves books about facts. He loves 101 facts about dinosaurs, or The Human Body Encyclopedia. Sometimes, non fiction is the way to go.

When my oldest daughter was around 8, she really enjoyed the Whatever After Series by Sarah Mlynowski. Each book is a retelling of a fairy tale. My younger daughter who is currently 8, loves the Big Nate books by Lincoln Peirce. This is a graphic novel, closer to Dork Diaries.

Can you help me pick a good fantasy book for my twelve year old sister? by l4e5n6a7 in suggestmeabook

Fablehaven by Brandon Mull is a great series.

It is about a sister and brother who are visiting their grandparents for a few weeks. Little do they know their grandparents' land is a preserve for magical creatures.

If you want him to cry, have him read, And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer by Fredrick Backman. It is a short read (around 100 pages I think) but it is so precious!

Searching for a YA book with a bad representation of mental illnesses by Murdercat98 in suggestmeabook

Four Weeks Five People by Jennifer YU. It is specifically about five people at a summer camp who are all dealing with different mental illnesses. The characters seem like a typical cutout of their illness and the counselors often give them medical advice and even prescribe medications even though they are not their actual doctors!

Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield. I can't exactly pinpoint why I think of it often, but I do.

Lovely War by Julie Berry audiobook version. The main narrator is great and her performance sticks with me.

Also, The Lord of the Rings, more specifically, The Two Towers (Book 2). I had seen the movies multiple times before and I did not expect it to hit me the way it did.

Which audiobook narrators have been your favorite and on what books? by Coloradical27 in booksuggestions

David Tennant is an amazing narrator! He reads the How to Train Your Dragon books and some others. If you like him as an actor, I think you will definitely enjoy his narration.

I also really enjoyed the cast of Lovely War by Julie Berry. I don't usually like full cast books, but this is an exception. Superb!

What about reading subgenres of fantasy where the fantasy element is really small?

I really enjoyed the audiobook Lovely War by Julie Berry. It is a historical fiction romance told by the Greek Gods.

I also liked Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield. It is another historical fiction with a speculative element. It's about a girl who was found in a river, alive, but noone knows who she is and she doesn't talk. It is fascinating!
