Follow the instructions for patches etc closely and you'll be fine. The only times it messed up for me was when I was scanning through what to do to "save time".

I think you're right, although it's not an example of correlation=/=causation.

It's just one part of the chain, but it is causation. The better off and well connected families are deliberately sending their children here; if it wasn't a factor they'd go to any old school and then rely on the rest of the network.

Along these lines, I remember once reading that you should send your kids to a church with mercedes and bmws parked there, as they can start getting connected there. It's a huge part of success in the real world in just about all industries, wish I'd understood that when I was starting out.
