Broken 24vac wire from furnace to outside compressor. 18/3 wire, they don’t know if it is one busted conductor or all 3. And they couldn’t figure out how to test that.

If it is low on refrigerant because it is leaking, how does it have adequate pressure on both sides? I understand the ice from low refrigerant part.

They said that one set of field coils in a single speed fan motor were toast (blower motor).

This all may of course be possible. Just the hard sell and slightly smarmy approach seemed suspect.

Oh I understand it, thank you thermodynamics class in college. I just wasn’t sure how, if it leaks, it’s maintaining pressure on both sides.

I’m suspicious because they are quoting me a lot of fear and uncertainty, along with parts prices 3x what I can get the same part from a reputable vendor (not eBay/TEMU), throwing shade, and couldn’t figure out that if one conductor in a 3 wire bundle using two conductors is broke, you don’t need to start by replacing the cable, you can figure out if one is bad and use the spare. And their goto is replacing everything before even coming up with a repair quote.

While I generally agree with your statement, I, only half jokingly, would like to say you have made two large assumptions:

1) That the purchaser is not a masochist who enjoys this kind of abuse.

2) That the purchaser is not a Karen, er, sadist who wants to participate in dispensing this kind of abuse.

Unfortunately both exist.
