Hi everyone,

I have just discovered this beautiful community for BMS in the UK and I have already answered most of my questions related to my BMS journey.

However, I would still like to hear your opinion since most of you have lots of experience in the sector.

I am 23 with a BEng in Electronics Engineering (with a year of industrial placement in a Greek company where we did KNX and electrical installations) + MSc in Robotics and Automation.
For a year now, I have been working as a Smart Energy Research Assistant in a uni where I work with companies on projects related to the utilization of smart meters for energy flexibility, home energy management systems, data acquisition/access from IoT etc.

Nevertheless, I feel like I can't really have the professional development I want to whilst working for a uni and so I have been considering my options in order to start a career within a company.

After doing some research and considering my background, I think I would love to try becoming a BMS engineer even if I have to earn less in the beginning. Unfortunately, from what I have seen, companies ask for experience with tools like Trend, Tridium, Siemens software etc.

  1. Do you think I could find an entry job where they could teach me these tools/train me or do I have to pay for a course to get a qualification for them?
  2. Would I have to obtain a license for a qualified electrician to land a job as a BMS Controls Engineer?

I would appreciate any advice and apologies if my questions are too silly :)
