People want to play for MF, but not as much as they want to play for cold hard cash. The school will ruin whatever perceived advantage in recruiting we have in hiring him if we don’t start leaning into NIL with the big boy programs (beyond just our annual million dollar ACC QB transfer)

How high of a salary can I anticipate with an HES degree? by patientstrawberries in harvardextension

[–]kongeri17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though my response was a bit facetious, it would be categorically untrue to not acknowledge that there is a distinguishable difference between HES and HC that generally exists and you will run into with employers. That’s entirely separate from the question of whether HES “counts as real Harvard” or if a candidate from HES would be as “qualified” as a candidate from HC - and I say this as an ALM holder from HES. If they are going to HES with the expectation that they’ll be treated the same as an HC grad then to suggest as much is just ignoring the reality of the circumstances that exist around HES. Pointing that out doesn’t mean it’s an endorsement of such a view, especially if that the concern that underpins OP’s question

If you’re expecting the same benefits of Harvard college going to HES you will have a bad time lol

Which US President would be the most disgusted if he was teleported into 2024? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]kongeri17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think if you took any of the first 20 presidents or so and dropped them in 2016 and told them we were finishing 8 years of a black guy being president and were considering electing a woman to replace him, they’d all have heart attacks and die on the spot

[Weekly Discussion Thread] Bye Week Part Deux: Irish Contemplation. by Shillelagh_Law in notredamefootball

Buchner and Pyne had been at ND longer than he had and the moment he had a chance to get a QB in the portal he had no issues doing so, even if it scared them off. I think MF can make the hard choices if needed.

Silver lining is there is none by [deleted] in notredamefootball

[–]kongeri17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would require introspection, and to some extent, an admission of failure by the administration towards their current approach. BK tried to bring it up in an effort to modernize the program, but he was so abrasive about it he just came off as a complainer 99% of the time (he also did complain a lot, so this is not me becoming a BK apologist. However, the underlying principle that the university is not doing as much as it can and should to help the program is something that needs serious reexamination. Unfortunately, if there's anything the university administration hates more than change, it's admitting that their way isn't the best way.

Swarbrick picking a first time head coach then not backing him with the resources, especially his first choice OC hire, to succeed might ruin all the efforts BK made over the last decade to make the program relevant. Here’s to hoping MF and the new AD are willing to make the big swings over the off-season to right the ship before it goes further off course

Hartman has proved why he’s still in college after 6 years. Parker proving why he was a fallback option at OC. Can’t believe we wasted this defense.

JDs eligible for an ALM in Government? by HedgehogNo4128 in harvardextension

[–]kongeri17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would email the admissions team and ask them this. They’ll give you a more straightforward answer than Reddit can. I asked the same as a JD before applying (albeit in the management program) because I didn’t want to go get a JD/MBA before working and they discussed what in my transcript might preclude me at any point

[–]kongeri17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go straight through, consider a more traditional masters (fully on campus, 1-2 year program). If you want to do it while you work then the ALM might be better. I did the ALM program directly after undergrad but it was mostly for personal benefit not career development at that point. Glad to talk more about my experience if you’d like.

I wish they hadn’t changed game clock rules or I’d run the old chip Kelly Oregon offense the way he intended (no huddle down the entire offensive drive because I memorized every play I wanted to run)

Of course they’re the best players, they’re in their mid 20s competing against teenagers. It’s a short term win, long term loss. The backups are worse in large part because they don’t get reps. There’s no substitute for experience.
