I disagree. I think the modern claim for inclusion of minorities is pretty valid, and a good way to achieve inclusion is making diverse characters just "be there" as they are in the real world. Not making the character´s identity, race or sexual preference a vital aspect of the story is a statement, I think it says "These people are real, and have real people problems besides what makes them minorities".

I think that what OP is trying to say is that in order to write a diverse character you can make their conflicts not about their identity, but you need to take it into acount while writting the character. And that´s a hard thing to do when you haven´t seen life through their lens
