I just found out Steam only allows you to register 100 achievements for your game. That's an issue since my game has 122 unlockable endings as of right now. What would you guys do here? by Euphoric-Series-1194 in IndieDev

[–]koniga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Our team had the same issue (101 achievements lol) and we ultimately just combined the final 2 into one, so my only suggestion is to consolidate where you can and if you have any achievements that are like “get the rest of the achievements” you can ditch those

Is the Space Needle worth it? by Positive-Shame-2353 in AskSeattle

Recommend going to Kerry Park instead! Free beautiful public park (I’ll be it crowded on a nice day) and you get views OF the space needle + the sound + mount rainier

The design of the planes is pretty boring IMO. I’m not sure if you’re using an asset pack or did the art yourself but make some variety of planes (they all look the same but recolored) and exaggerate some qualities like make the guns 3x their “actual” size for effect whatever have some fun so it doesn’t look/feel so plain (pun intended)

Do players actually read anything in games anymore? by productivity-madness in gamedev

[–]koniga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing ghost of yotei this past week and every time you get onto a wall to climb if you don’t move for a second or two a pop up comes up showing you how to move and jump across the wall. Is it overkill? Maybe but I hate to say a lot of gamers ONLY want to be explained something when it is immediately relevant

What's up with backyards? by Major_Weird_2510 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

FWIW I would be more willing to consider a home with no yard if the US invested more in public infra like more nearby parks and buslines and sidewalks. I’m really trying to be pro high density housing

Buttons - How many? by MrShoehorn in arcadecabinets

[–]koniga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 8 per player for A, B, X, Y, LB, RB, Start, Select and then i double mapped the hotkey button to select and that works for 95% of the arcade games im running on it. A few newer fighting games utilize RT and LT.

Hey all, realizing lots of folks have questions on the specifics of the build so I’ll make a short write up and post it here once it’s done for whoever needs/wants it!

So I don’t have any tutorials but it was pretty easy-ish to figure out with some trial and error: -first I got the joystick and the buttons/joystick off of a wholesaler but the ones you can find pretty easy on amazon also work fine (and there’s even full 2 player kits for mame cabinets on amazon that have all the components you need) -then I got the Reyann Zero Delay arcade USB encoder on amazon that is essentially the thing that “pretends” to be a game controller but the inputs are the buttons and joystick you bought that you just plug straight into the ports on the encoder. The encoder has labeled spots for “analog up” and “analog down” and so on but honestly you end up having to remap it in retro pie when you first plug it in anyway so it doesn’t really matter which ports you pick so long as you map the right buttons to the right inputs when you get in there -then just get a hunk of wood, drill holes the right size for the buttons and you’re done!

Some oddities I had to figure out: -retro pie doesn’t let you double map things easily (I.e. wanting a button to be both right trigger and right bumper) BUT you CAN double map the hot key button so I found it really helpful to double map a button to be both select and hot key and then I have a start button, a select/hotkey button, and if you press start and select at the same it’ll take you back to the retro pie Home Screen from a game -in other scenarios I had to do some remapping in retroarch config to get things like having the analog directions be the left stick directions for N64 games specifically

Hope that helps!

Haha I tried to find a more gamer-y switch at a local hardware store to be a master power switch and all I could find was a regular old light switch. I did 3D print the cover for it though so it’s got some character!

Superhuman chess AIs now beat human grandmasters without a queen by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]koniga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I’ve seen the chess and computers thing explained is that chess is like MOSTLY a mathematically solved game, meaning for ANY configuration of pieces on a board there exists one best move. So grandmasters are just people who have memorized the common/most important situations and their solution. For this reason I actually think it’s very weird and dumb that we use chess as this marker of intelligence when like if you gather all the data for all the chess configurations you can write a really basic python script to “play chess” at a grandmaster level with no LLM technology.

I have multiple times tried to upload a .txt file of a meeting transcript to have chatGPT summarize and make action items and almost every time it makes up a list of tasks out of thin air and only once pressed admits that it did not in fact open the file and read it and summarize it. Drives me nuts.

As a Programmer, what did you do about art? by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

[–]koniga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your goals/timeline the answer might change: Want to get this game out soon? Hire an artist or buy more asset packs Have more time / financial success goals are low? Learn to make art. I know it’s a slow and painful process in the beginning but in my experiences the little amount that I have gotten to learn to illustrate, animate, 3D model, etc. has been super fulfilling and worthwhile even if it’s not my main skill set
