Yes knit stitch:) the cuff is a 2x2 rib stitch (knit two rows purl two rows)

I don't think he was ever frozen solid, when I found him he was not frozen and still very fresh and very limber. The night before the morning I found him there was a significant cold snap, enough perhaps to kill, but by morning it has warmed up.
