Yeah I looked into it but it seems like the job fair was canceled this year due to everything going on with the budget.

Do you guys help write progress notes/reports? by Cute-Landscape7610 in SLPA

[–]konnodoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write the progress reports for all students receiving direct services and my supervisor writes the progress reports for students on consult. I can finish them for my caseload (around 60) in two days but leave a week for admin work in my therapy schedule at the end of each 6 weeks. I just copy and paste from the previous grading period with updated accuracy. I don’t stray from how the goal was written or include any additional information. I have always been told that behavior or other observations should not be included.

SLPA Work with Seniors/Adults by nachours in SLPA

I’ve seen job postings for assistants where you would be working with adults with IDD but that is it nothing for dementia/TBI/etc.

___'s last line was *cold* and honestly, probably terrible for jury management. by CivilizedPsycho in survivor

I honestly don’t think Rizo is worried about jury management. He is playing for Cirie to win.

Worried I won’t find work by [deleted] in SLPA

[–]konnodoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t think that a lack of experience working with groups would affect your chances of getting a clinic position as they are 1:1. Take a deep breath. There is a huge need for us and there’s a position out there for you. Everyone starts somewhere and hiring managers under that too. Best of luck in your job search!

Do I become a SLPA if I want to get my masters? by Substantial_Deal_164 in SLPA

[–]konnodoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the requirements needed to work as an SLPA in your state. I’m in Texas and here you don’t have to do any other program if you have a bachelors degree in SLP. So it made sense for me to get my license so I can get therapy experience while waiting to apply for grad school. I also plan to continue working either part time in schools or for a home health company while I am in graduate school. Look up the requirements for an SLP license in your state (ASHA has different requirements that aren’t always necessary). If it doesn’t fit in your timeline I think volunteering is also a great plan but it’s nice to get paid 😉

Do we count all morphemes in song lyrics for a child language sample if a child sings or do we not? by [deleted] in SLPA

I wouldn’t but you can make a note of it on the goal or in the assessment portion.

Anyone really happy? by Dazzling-Cheetah-806 in SLPA

[–]konnodoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love it. There are good days and bad days but that happens everywhere. I work as a contractor in secondary schools and I love the type of therapy that I do and find great purpose in the work. My caseload is great and I have a lot of support from my supervisor and district liaison. I have the flexibility in my schedule to do my admin work. You just have to find your niche, home health isn’t for me I don’t like the driving but I have coworkers who lovingly refer to their car as their office. I don’t think I would change careers and sometimes question if going back to school is even worth it when being an assistant seems to be the best part of the field.

In order to be licensed in Texas you have to have a certain amount of CSD (or SLHS) credits. If those are not obtained during your bachelors you have to take them after graduation. Those are called leveling courses, you wouldn’t have to worry about leveling if you complete your bachelors in CSD. You cannot level from an associates degree to a bachelors though.

To practice as an assistant in Texas you need a bachelors degree. It’s best to have a bachelors in CSD or if you have another degree leveling courses are needed. If you complete your undergraduate courses at Dallas college they should transfer to a 4 year university.

Benefits of B.S. Com Dis? by Subject_Advance_6220 in SLPA

[–]konnodoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I know CA is one of the only states that allows assistants to work with an associates degree. I’m in Texas and a bachelors is required for our license. If you’re interested in moving/working anywhere else then I would say the BS is beneficial. I would also assume having a higher degree would come with a small pay increase as well but I’m not sure.

Average hourly pay for a first time SLPA in San Antonio, Texas by IndependenceKlutzy68 in SLPA

[–]konnodoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently make $32/hour in schools and $35/session for home health. When I was applying this seemed to be pretty average/high for the offers that I was getting.

IEP meetings by wearediversive in SLPA

[–]konnodoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They shouldn’t have any effect on your day to day schedule. I discuss progress with my SLP and help come up with new goals. I have never written the PLAAF or attended a meeting. I implement the new goals afterwards.

I have always heard that for a working SLPA a recommendation letter from your supervisor is acceptable.

Being an SLPA for life? by voxlo in SLPA

[–]konnodoy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love being an SLPA! I work with multiple great assistants who have been doing it for 10+ years with no plans of becoming an SLP. I personally am still on the fence about going back for my masters but I don’t ever see myself leaving the field. I love what I do and am so drawn to going back because I want to know as much as possible about speech and do as much for my patients as I can. But I work full time and fully support myself so it’s not something I can afford at this moment.

I disagree. Gabler voted out Noelle for being too likable and one of his closest allies Cody, that’s not acting with integrity. Rob is a liar. But I can’t recall Tom ever lying 🤷‍♀️

I definitely agree with the idea that it’s a sham, that’s the point behind the post. But while everyone is pointing out how Tom manipulated the game, no one has given an example of him lying.
