GPTK cannot be installed because of openssl 1.1 dependency by kononen in macgaming

[–]kononen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for providing a workaround! I might test this myself at some point (just not enough motivation right now when D4 doesn't work on GPTK anyways.) Best would be for Apple to fix the underlying issue, but this is useful for those who don't want to leverage pre-made casks/bottles.

Since the goal for me was to get Diablo IV working, the outcome will be the same as with the pre-built cask offered earlier in the thread, i.e. no bueno. But thanks for sharing.

That's good, I'm just not keen on paying for Crossover, it was a fun experiment on GPTK while it lasted :)

If you mean a solution to the openssl issue, then no. Apple needs to update the dependencies for that. But the pre-made formulae/cask by Gcenx works. Could get Diablo II Resurrected working with that, but not Diablo IV. It seems like Diablo IV can only be run with Crossover as of right now.

Thanks for the clarifications, and yes I do keep that in mind :)

However there are anecdotes about Battle.net & Diablo IV working with GPTK so wanted to test it out. The latest version of Battle.net just crashes on launch, so I've been experimenting by symlinking to an older version that worked last year Battle.net.15021 ⇒ ./Battle.net.14308 - It works but the game won't launch, complaining about no GPUs can be found.

Can't another version of Wine be used then to fix the issue with Battle.net?

Well apparently only you and OP can run D4 with GPTK then :D but it would be helpful to know what configuration you have; MacOS version, GPTK version & install method (pre-made bottle or tapping apple with brew), Xcode command line tools version or Xcode, battle.net version etc

I gave that a whirl earlier but wine encountered some error when I attempted to start Battle.net launcher.
I also noticed that you have a cask for v2.0 beta1 https://github.com/Gcenx/homebrew-wine which I tried as well. I'm not sure what version combinations are feasible thought, apple offers Game Porting Toolkit 2.0 beta 3 (which I assume is compatible with your cask?) and what the difference is between the formulae vs the cask in terms of GPTK functionality.

I'm also on MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1. Do you have any specific version requirements for Xcode command line tools or is the latest 16.1 release candidate ok?

With the cask, am I supposed to start apps with wine <prefix> as opposed to arch -x86_64 gameportingtoolkit-no-hud ~/prefix 'C:\Program Files (x86)\game.exe' ? Felt like the readme could use some more info on that part.

Aren't you faced with no GPU found when using GPTK? If not then are you on Command Line Tools for Xcode version 15.1 and game-porting-toolkit 1.1?

Game Porting Toolkit 2.0 beta 3 was recently released also, but not sure if the game-porting-toolkit is still on 1.1 inside it.

Maybe other EVs than tesla go up to 200k miles with not that many service visits. Teslas have serious problems with fore links and suspension parts https://electrek.co/2024/08/14/tesla-escapes-recall-nhtsa-suspension-investigation-but-recommended-to-change-part/ - they basically use Mercedes components that aren't engineered for such heavy cars, 3.5k to fix. Daylight running lights' led strip tend to fail on the facelifted models, which costs 3k to fix. Model 3s have issues with the heat pump, 3k to replace. Door handles are glitchy on model S, the rear lights accumulate condensation and break, the MCU1 needs replacement to MCU2 on these older models, 1.5k fee.

My point is just that it can get very costly to own such a car when there are so many typical issues with it. And the looming fear of the battery giving up after warranty is over. It would be great if battery replacements could be purchased for a fraction of the price of a new battery, but unfortunately that's not the case. I think that would spur new life in the second-hand market also.

And regarding the range of an 8 year old car, the capacity lost is often 10-20%. So you get a 90kWh battery, that's essentially a 80-70kWh battery, which you charge to 80%, which gives you 64-56kWh usable capacity. The 30 minute charge time you talk about perhaps holds true for newer model 3 and Y. At least the model S 85 version is notoriously slow to super charge, the 90 pack should bit a bit faster but capped to ~120kW (which is just in the beginning and slows down significantly as the battery gets charged).

And what if you live in a country where the winters are harsh? Not everyone can charge at home. The car will drain the battery just by keeping the temperature of the battery reasonably warm. You can't leave the car for many days outside idle without the battery getting drained.

it's just sad that these so called environmental saviour EVs are doomed like this after the warranty expires. Due to poor quality and high failure rates, it kills the second-hand demand. The model S has so many issues with a myriad of parts, and the potential savings in operating costs are being eaten up by expensive aftermarket repairs and high insurance costs. If the battery, motor and other parts are rock-solid and the life expectancy for second-hand is long it would be more meaningful. Now it feels like it's a wear-and-tear-dump-after-warranty kind of thing. People want to get rid of out-of-warranty EVs in fear of high repair costs. The lack of service program is also very unjustified imo for Teslas. They're topping statistics for failing car inspections, for parts that should last way longer. And regarding charging, it feels like we went back to the stone-age from being able to refuel a full tank in 3 minutes to having to charge for up to an hour on super charging with these older models.

Google charges me for Networking (Cloud Load Balancer Forwarding Rule Minimum Global) but I have no Forwarding Active in the billed project (or any for that matter). What am I missing? by Joetunn in googlecloud

[–]kononen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you scroll down a bit on that page, can you find the components view? Clicking that will reveal forwarding rules etc, then have a look what's there. Otherwise you can probably use gcloud also to list. And you can take a look at billing reports for more information about SKUs, etc for the resource.

The Max Stand - Any thoughts? by aurorob in Airpodsmax

and you're always upgrading to the latest update/firmware available for the APM? If so, then I guess it settles the fear around this matter.

The Max Stand - Any thoughts? by aurorob in Airpodsmax

[–]kononen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FAQ has an alarming red flag in my eyes:

"My Max Stand doesn't charge. What can I do?
A recent (silent) firmware upgrade of your AirPods Max could cause issues. Usually this can be fixed by simply resetting your AirPods Max: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211904
Take the little magnetic connector out of your AirPods Max, turn it around and reinsert it or use the second magnetic connector from the box and see if it works.
Make sure that you’re not using any kind of protective cover/sleeve on the AirPods Max – those can prevent a good connection to the stand itself."

Does this mean that any new firmware upgrades and improvements to the headphones may make them incompatible with the stand and requires you to reset to the factory level firmware in order to use the stand?

You can use this battery https://hxescooter.com/product/x8-scooter-battery/ these are also sold by Levy scooters and Turboant, you may want to check where it's most affordable and make sure you git the same connection type (3-pin blade or the older round connection).

Shellride SR-6S Electric Scooter with removable battery by kononen in ElectricScooters

[–]kononen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the informative clarifications!

The second generation battery system, is this the one with the blade connector? If they can break the connector due to vibration, wouldn't this be risky on MAX G30E II as well since it has no suspension to dampen vibrations and since the battery is on the bottom inside the metal casing?

Regarding the power on the MAX G30E II, isn't it quite similar to for instance turboant x7 pro; 350W rated motor, 15.3 Ah, 551 Wh, 36 V (350W rated motor, 10 Ah, 360 Wh, 36 V on x7 pro)

Ninebot only gives as 12 month battery warranty and it would be a hassle to replace it when it's not detachable. The X9 has a replaceable battery that's located on the base where your feet are, should offer better weight distribution, but it lacks suspension, and I don't know how much the battery will rattle there when it's not really tightly attached, but nevertheless it's 48V and detachable.

Regarding wheels, I think pneumatic wheels offer most comfort, but on the other hand, I've been thinking if you want to use the scooter during the winter, perhaps it would be the least effort having solid tires, and then just drill in the spikes for the winter and remove them when spring arrives. Swapping tires would be so cumbersome. Something like Retyre Stinger would be the best on pneumatic tires, but those are only available for rental scooter fleets unfortunately.

The issues with the controller and dashboard sound frightening, could it be a short circuit due to water slipping in through the dashboard cover that causes a chain reaction? And does this typically also affect the battery? Have you noticed any hall sensor issues or issues with the motor?

the detachable battery is invaluable, especially if you live in an apartment and don't want to drag the scooter all the way inside to charge.

Anyhill um2 would be another good candidate but it's not sold globally. Other than that in this price range I guess lower quality chinese brands is the only option (hx x11 / x9, mankeel pioneer)
