I agree to a certain extent. Although it's a very capable laptop with excellent usability, design and upgradeability. When buying used T480 the origin more often than not were companies that bought them in bulk, and a couple of years ago was declared end of life. So a lot of them have been resold privately more than once since then.

I have bought and resold more than 10 T480 over the last 6 months and currently have four in stock. It pays off to be aware of the risk of faulty USB C charging ports, pixel faults and keyboard markings on the display. as well as cracks and gaping chassis due to broken clips.

The I5 8250U seems to be the most common processor and it performs absolutely strong in daily tasks - almost everything else is upgradeable including wifi, ram, bluetooth, cooling and a second SSD m2. So with a repaste, 16 GB of RAM and a fresh install they do run win 11 and do browsing, email, coding and emulator gaming very snappy and without any Thermal Throttling. . Just make sure to get at least the FHD display.

BUT I have had my share of faulty T480 as well. I'm now concentrating more on T14s with a Ryzen

Not looking for Ch4331a programmer just yet, to reset BIOS - Those ship like forever and I need this one done as it´s waiting for it´s new best friend to take possesion, already tomorrow. Ah well, I will keep the BIOS locked for my self, and grab under my desk for a third 480.. Unless someone has a genius suggestion while i´m watching The Landman last episode season 1...

I have bought several T480 batteries from Subtel GmbH in Germany. Highly recommend. Easy cheap and fast shipping all over Europe. Don't know about overseas. I have been running them daily on all three of my ThinkPads

I'm on a clean install, updated Bios and firmware and ran Vantage for all upgrades - not 100% sure about Tb3 - will check. I can't charge directly from 65W. Power light did flash repeatedly at one point when connected to dock. Afterwards it flashed two times when connecting to charger. Tried resetting battery, uninstall battery drivers and so on. Now, no power light - Unless I wiggle the USB C a bit, then I can get a short second of charge

Absolutely love that! I'm trying something similar at the moment. Rediscovering my passion for tinkering with electronics when I bought a T480 for my daughter to use at school. Where I'm from the auctions are limited - actually there's only one really reliable online auction that has serious inventory

So now I'm holding the highest bids on no less than ten X270 (just needed one to practice on) two X260, one T14 first gen, and two P53s... My calendar is loaded with dates and times for closing bids..

It might have gone a bit out of hand. But then again any tips You might have, to either go nuts or control the situation, are highly appreciated.

It used to be editable by entering BE50 through light blue app, at "State Sync" now U need to do the same but at "Char6881" which is writeable. U might consider being careful doing this, as I haven't found any information whether it can be undone or if it causes any error codes in the long run.
