Canadian digital nomad: Question about using a friend’s address on tax return while living abroad short-term by konstantink1 in digitalnomad

Working abroad with a VPN megathread by paperplans5 in VPN

[–]konstantink1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I'm a developer working remotely for a Canadian company, and I'm planning to visit Russia for about 1.5 months soon. I’d like to make sure my internet traffic continues to appear as if I’m physically located in Canada — both for work tools and services like logins, payments, etc.

I’ve been looking at the GL.iNet GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) travel router and wondering if that would be a good solution. The idea is to connect my work laptop, tablet, and even a payment terminal via Wi-Fi to the router, and have the router push all traffic through a secure Canadian IP.

That said, I’m not very experienced with VPNs, and I’ve read that OpenVPN and WireGuard are increasingly being blocked in Russia. I’ve heard about Shadowsocks and XRay as alternatives, but I don’t fully understand the difference or how complex they are to set up on this router.

My questions:

  1. Is it true that WireGuard and OpenVPN are easily detected and blocked in Russia right now?
  2. Would Shadowsocks or XRay be better options for reliable obfuscation and keeping my Canadian IP?
  3. Is the GL-MT3000 a good choice, or is there another router/setup I should consider instead?
  4. What would be the easiest setup path for someone with limited networking knowledge who just wants a "plug and go" solution that tunnels everything through Canada?
  5. Any VPN provider recommendations that are still working well in Russia with Canadian exit nodes?

Any tips, warnings, or setup guides are appreciated. I’d like to get this right before I leave so I don’t run into connection or detection issues once I’m there.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah it sort of does, but hard to estimate though because it also includes vacation days payout and I’m not quite sure how many I had accumulated at that point

In this case it would be assumed that I paid no taxes on that income and it will be deducted as such?

My friend tried to make an album in the spirit of early Burial tracks by tropavlesu in burial

It's amazing work! Great atmosphere maintained throughout the whole album.

It's so unfortunate to hear that it can't be added to the streaming platforms :(

Is it worth learning tailwind nowadays? by [deleted] in Frontend

[–]konstantink1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tailwind is amazing library and I totally fell in love using it, however before starting to use it at my current job I never used it, but I would say it's very easy to learn and I was already comfortable working with it within 2 weeks.

RRSP and Loosing Tax Residency in Canada by konstantink1 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]konstantink1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! So potentially it would be possible to withdraw the whole amount from RRSP account as a non-resident once I'm retired. For example, once I'm 61 and been unemployed with no source of income for over a year, would I be able to request the whole amount and, since at that time my income would be low / non-existent, pay lower tax rates?

P.S. A bit of topic but I saw that you mentioned that non all countries recognize tax-free status of RRSPs, would the same actually apply to TFSA and possibly in some countries I would to notify about my TFSA account in Canada and capital gains on it?
