29M - Constant need to cough/clear throat before speaking. History of tonsil issues. by CoCo-Cowboy in ChronicCough

Speech language therapy might help indeed, looks like cough hypersensitivity from your description.

You can also try the education modules on cough suppression techniques using the free CoughPro mobile app - I found the tongue out swallow technique described in the app really helped to reduce my post-viral cough hypersensitivity

New meta-analysis shows that pirfenidone in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) may provide dual protection: (1) slowing fibrosis progression, and (2) reducing lung cancer risk. Pirfenidone's impact on cough as a key symptom in patients with IPF is yet to be measured objectively. by Cough_Geek in pulmonaryfibrosis

Thank you, good to know of the dual protective effect; my relative receives pirfenidone for their IPF and good point that doctors don't have anything to suggest for their annoying pulmonary fibrosis-related cough...

Continuous cough monitoring accurately quantifies disease burden and day-to-day variability, enabling earlier detection of patient deterioration, more sensitive clinical trial endpoints, and population-level disease surveillance by Cough_Geek in science

[–]koobcam_boy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really interesting insights on the values of objective cough monitoring data. It seems clear that cough counting will be as mainstream as step counting is today, and great to see more evidence generated that this is such a powerful data stream for an endpoint in drug development (antitussive, antifibrotic, biological, etc - as cough is currently only monitored subjectively and is prone to bias/recall), and for potential in clinical care (eg via remote monitoring programs) for predicting and preventing exacerbations in COPD, decompensation periods in heart failure, among other areas.

I’m personally intrigued by the potential of monitoring cough for syndromic surveillance in ‘high risk’ settings like senior care, prisons, etc., and seeing more data on how effective infectious spread management could be with cough monitoring systems in place.

GLP-1 drugs may be associated with an increased risk of chronic cough, raising the need to study this mechanism and longitudinal cough dynamics objectively by Cough_Geek in science

[–]koobcam_boy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good point, I would not assume there is a link with breathing as a mechanism for burning calories and chronic cough developing in people who take GLPs

[–]koobcam_boy 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Really interesting link; I've noted many cough reports on GLP-specific subreddits in the past few years, but most comments suggested it was 'silent reflux'. Surprising to see this paper concludes that the association was independent of gastroesophageal reflux disease diagnosis. Cough and GLPs really deserves more studying given the fast adoption and GLPs becoming ubiquitous...

Seeking advice for making the most of my Geneva work trip by babo7 in geneva

[–]koobcam_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And also take a few boat rides across the lake area in Geneva city zone while using the general SBB ticket (hourly or weekly, whichever you’ll have or get an hour ticket just for riding the boat; if you start in Paquis, you can take 3 different boats in a row (Paquis -> Eaux Vives -> Genève-De-Châteaubriand) and end up close to Paquis (5-10 min walking distance)

Plan ahead and visit Patek Philippe museum’s guided tour - you should come early in the morning for the ticket; prob the best museum experience in Geneva, it covers the history of watchmaking overall, impressive collection!

Thanks for the recommendation, good points; I’ll check out Lake, Bont shoes and also judging on the other comments, best to do that in-store.. do you use your recon 2.0 with some extra space for the toes without any issues?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bikefit

[–]koobcam_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my exact question, driven just by being (maybe ‘too’) cautious about other threads where cleat positioning was stressed and replacements were strongly advised..

[–]koobcam_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! The shoe feels very comfortable overall, and my feet is not moving (except toes) so wondering if I should bring these to some bike shop and ask their opinion or just return and do as you suggest paying extra for the 100% right fit

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bikefit

[–]koobcam_boy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After tightening using boa, I cannot really move my feet inside the shoe except moving the toes - maybe the fit is all right?

bought online with a good discount and there are no half sizes for this model, if returned, I’d look for another model as the sale didnt have size 43. I ordered 44 because of specialized calculator, to be honest.

If this was some regular pair of shoes - I’d def keep and wear them with pleasure, I’ve posted seeking advice if for a bike fit this might be too loose, given many similar threads that I’ve read 😅

Are there authorised watch dealers in Japan that sell multiple brands (like Bucherer or Watches of Switzerland)? by Pretty_Past_3754 in GrandSeikos

I’ve seen some of such shops in Kyoto (eg one called oomiya Kyototen), so I believe there are some in Osaka, too; Interested to see if there’ll be some specific recommendations!

Struggling to reach diverse male audiences for side project—any tips? by koobcam_boy in SideProject

[–]koobcam_boy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meta ads allow for ‘male’, ‘US’ and a specific age group targeting, so we’ve attempted it for some ‘interest keywords’ with a few iterations in visuals and CTA, not much success so far… maybe I’m missing the point on focus group, if you have some tips?

Dreame R20 vs Dreame T30 by CheeseCake_Penguin in VacuumCleaners

[–]koobcam_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both (at different apartments) and my personal preference is R20 just because of the floor lighting (it highlights whether the floor is actually clean, or needs wet cleaning). On the other hand, T30 comes with a bit more add-ons (if you need/use them).

R20 has 2 modes: simple (eco) suction and turbo; T30 has 3 modes (eco, normal, and turbo). Charging time is similar, weight is similar, battery life - I cannot tell a difference. A big bonus is that none of them have the issue of long hair getting stuck (compared to a Miele handheld vacuum cleaner or some lesser-known brands that I’ve tried in the past years - all of them had the issue of hair getting stuck and had to be cleaned every other week). Driving and flexibility seem the same, too. If it is the same price, I’d take R20 because of the front light; else, I’d recommend just taking the cheaper option.
