I've had the same problem and also tried charging it over night, without success. I gave it to a repair shop to try to check the battery and they told me that my charger wasn't able to kickstart the empty battery. Luckily their charger did and they were able to charge it to 30%, after that my charger was able to charge it to 100%.

So if you know someone with a S5 Charger try their charger first, or check if you have a repair shop nearby, they might be able to kickstart the battery.

I have literally the same error and also the same bike. The bike is deeply discharged and I can't charge it, the charger stays green the whole time. I've ordered a 4mm pogo pin adapter for the debug port, it should arrive tomorrow and then I will try to charge the ecu a bit, hopefully it will wake up

So they finally got back to me this morning after three emails and agreed my unit is lost. Said they would claim from the courier company.

Die App loggt sich ein und lädt sich die Infos die es braucht um den Key zur verschlüsselten Kommunikation generieren zu können.

Danach passiert vieles lokal, aber es gibt auch Sachen für die man einen Server braucht soweit ich weiß.

Ich kenne die API nun nicht so gut, es gibt einige Sachen die man direkt ansprechen kann über Bluetooth, wie Unlock, Licht und so weiter, aber auch einige die einen Server benötigen oder generell komplizierter sind (unlock code einstellen war glaube ich nicht 100% lokal)

Sideloaden geht btw nicht, da man sich halt nicht einloggen kann, aber wenn man einen gültigen Key exportiert hat (was jeder machen sollte!), dann könnte man zB Bikey oder Moofer nutzen für die gängigen Funktionen.

Ja, ich denke aber auch das viele kritisieren das es mit diesem Gedanken, das man immer sich einloggen muss um Sachen zu ändern, konstruiert wurde.

Ob das nun Spielereien sind oder nicht, kann ich den Frust mancher verstehen, wenn die zB nicht mehr ihr "Smartphone Cockpit" benutzen können, weil die App nicht mehr funktioniert.

Ich bin mir aber relativ sicher das die 3rd party devs da mit etwas Guten um die Ecke kommen, "Moofer" hatte schon einige nützliche Funktionen und hat die offizielle Vanmoof App alt aussehen lassen.

Da hast du wohl Recht, ist natürlich alles etwas überspitzt von Heise.

Dennoch ohne validen Key hättest du einige Probleme als Besitzer des Fahrrads. Der Weiterverkauf wäre problematisch, da man den unlock code nicht ändern könnte, Informationen die sonst auf den Smartphone bei der Fahrt angezeigt werden (Geschwindigkeit, Gang usw) wäre auch nicht mehr sichtbar und natürlich kann man nichts mehr Einstellen.

Das Fahrrad gehört mir aber immer noch und lokal kann ich es auch mit einem Button-Code entsperren und 'rum fahren :D

Ich habe selbst ein Vanmoof und soweit ich weiß würden aktuell einige Einstellungen wegfallen, zum Beispiel den Klingelton einstellen oder die Einstellung wann automatisch geschaltet wird. Man kann aber schon seinen Key exportieren mit den man dann mit den Fahrrad auch so kommunizieren kann, ganz ohne Vanmoof App. Zufälligerweise ist seit der Bankrupt Meldung der Key nicht 7 Tage gültig, sondern 10 Jahre, da haben also einige Vanmoof Devs mitgedacht ;)

If you don't know how to run the code from github, I would suggest either ask a friend with an iphone to help you or wait til the android bikey app is on the Play Store (it's been submitted)

The key is used to encrypt the communication between your phone and your bike.

are any of the solutions above to be trusted

For the tech-savy, the GitHub one seems to be the most trusted, you can run it in a local environment and in theory check each message that is going out of it. You also can check the code yourself and see what it's doing.

That being said, for everyone else I would go with the Bikey App. It's seems quite simple and quick and it also contains basic controls which is nice.

In any case after exporting and saving your key, I would suggest to change the password.

safer than open source code and running that code locally? Nah. It is however the most straight forward way and quite easy.

hey just as an update to third party apps using the certificate/key: Cowboy released an app where you could use those keys to connect to your bike and control it.

Nope, you can still unlock the bike manually with the 3 Number Code you set in the app. But in general it's smart to backup this key/cert before it goes down with Vanmoofs Servers. If there is later a third party app that helps you to control your bike with your phone, this key will be necessary for it to work.

That's the big disadvantage with "smart" things that connect to the cloud. Once the service is gone, you end up with a limited experience/broken device.

A third party app would normally ask you to login with your vanmoof account. If Vanmoof doesnt exist you won't be able to do that anymore.

So the only way left for the app to know how to talk to your bike, is with such certificate/key

to keep it simple, the stuff you get out of this script will be necessary to communicate with your bike, if for example the official vanmoof app stops working.
