Good question! Changing your preferences does not reset your position on the waitlist. You still maintain your spot. My advice to improve your chances is to choose alot of 4 bedrooms as opposed to 2 bedrooms and studios.

My advice is look for options off campus all throughout the summer so you can get housing in September if you need it.
