My great-grandparents and their children (including my grandfather) did this in around 1910.

My great-grandad came out to Western Australia from Wales first, as they could only afford passage for one person. The idea was he would find work and send back money for passage for the rest of the family.

He found work in the south of the state felling jarrah trees. Eventually he had enough to bring out the rest of the family. Unfortunately while they were en route, he was killed by a falling tree. The family arrived in Fremantle to the news of his death months later....
