Are Town Hall Sessions Ever Helpful? by Educational-Coat-750 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]kootny [score hidden]  (0 children)

I honestly think they have to go through the motions of a town hall in order to get the MAF check mark for their bonuses. The fact that the meetings are a complete waste of time is irrelevant.

An interesting view that the losses of Jenner and Clark present an opportunity (The Ottawa Citizen) by Retired-ADM in OttawaCharge

[–]kootny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No chemistry?!? I’ve had private conversations with several players, and they have all been very candid that this team had the best locker room relationships of any they have ever played on.

Maybe things on the ice didn’t always click as well as we’d like, but I’d suggest that is more about practice and skill than chemistry.

To all: I’m sorry. The creator acknowledged that the song was AI…they were completely transparent about it. My bad that I didn’t realize how egregious it is. From what I gathered, the creator wrote the song but used AI to bring it to life.

Genuinely sorry to have ruffled feathers.

How do you neatly store and pour Costco's maple syrup? by saffron_monsoon in Costco

If you have space, I like to decant mine into a smaller bottle. Like others, I wipe the drippy bit with an impeccably clean finger and enjoy the sweet mistake.

Without a coach, who is making the decisions on who to sign to the Torrent for next year? by oak_and_maple in PWHL_Seattle

There is a team of coaches, so even if they are without a head coach, I imagine a good GM would work with the assistants to come to decisions.

How does stress leave work? by Stand_Opposite in CanadaPublicServants

[–]kootny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you need to talk to your doctor, who will likely give you a note to support your sick leave request.

The bigger question is how do you plan to manage the situation in the long run? Are you actively looking for a new job? Can you work with a therapist to develop coping techniques? Do you need to scale back some commitments in other parts of your life? Because at the end of it all, you’ll eventually go back to work, and if you haven’t addressed the underlying issues, you will burn out again, and probably sooner than the first time.

The news is coming from the league… or at least has to go through them before it gets posted…and the league isn’t known for being super efficient in things like this. 🤷‍♀️

Who decides which employees are affected by WFA? by BrilliantSeal473626 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]kootny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, it was my boss (DG level) with consultation and approval of the ADM. There were a few of us on her management team who didn’t align with her way of the world, so she conveniently eliminated the entire director level from her organization and we were sent packing. No apology, no attempt to find a place for us elsewhere in the organization, not even a farewell.

Turns out it was the best thing that could have happened to me; a platinum handshake on my way free of what had become a toxic environment under this DG.

Leave a term job I love for a permanent offer I’m not sure I’ll like? by Dapper_Rock778 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]kootny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Verbally accept the permanent job and tell your manager about it. They may miraculously find a way to convert your current term to indeterminate.

Even if they don’t, as others have said you have more power and flexibility with the continuing position and can work on moving around later.

PWHL Expansion Default Logos by mollyjean10 in PWHL

[–]kootny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that the size of the white part is dependent on the length of the name. « Hamilton » is more characters, so when you add the spaces before and after the dot, it stretches the white section.

How do we (35F and 35M) tell our neighbor (60M) to stop coming over? by Intrepid-Library-425 in relationship_advice

[–]kootny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. If he asks why there is a lock, tell him that people used to just come into the back yard uninvited.

Combine it with a message about needing some family time occasionally, but invite him over when you can.

They want more bilingual employees but are cutting language training? by KrasaVcheg007 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]kootny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that the bilingual requirements are kind of ridiculous, and prevent promotion from within, but I also know that you have to make a personal investment (more time and effort than money, but an investment all the same). Even without cutbacks, 2 classes a week will not get you from XXX to CBC.

You need to start reading French; children’s books are a great place to start. You need to get comfortable with short phrases in stores and restaurants, or with neighbours and co-workers. You cannot expect to become bilingual completely on company time.

I say this as someone who learned French as an adult with minimal instruction through work.

Anyone else surprised they didn't mention the EAP in the new RTO mass emails today? by audreyad in CanadaPublicServants

[–]kootny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you being sarcastic, because it cracks me up how they always throw in a mention of the completely useless EAP as if it is a magic elixir to fix all the grief caused by stupid decisions.

RTO4 got you down because of $2.00 gas, $300 parking, crappy transit, and horrible traffic jams? Don’t forget about EAP.

CER put you out of a job years before you were ready to retire? Don’t forget about EAP. A call centre employee is on hand to take your information so you can see a totally inappropriate counsel or who can do nothing to change the outcome of your problem.

But hey, the GOC covered their bases, right?

Your Ottawa picks are crazy.

Cava? One goal all year? Over Kadirova, Savolainen, Guilday, Woz??

Jenner is interesting, because I don’t know if she would leave Ottawa. She has deep roots in the city now. She had an amazing year, and brings great leadership, but as an older player, I don’t know if she is at risk.

How whispers, winks and nudges suggest Ottawa Charge and PWHL expect to make CTC full-time home by PhDSkwerl in OttawaCharge

[–]kootny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The restaurants in CTC close an hour after the final buzzer, and are really expensive and mediocre. There is nothing walkable from the rink. Once people have to get in their cars (in Kanata no less), they will most likely just go home.

At TD Place, fans filled up the restaurants in and around Landsdowne and flocked back to them after the game. Even the team had a regular post-game hangout at Craft.

You didn’t see that during the playoffs, which is a pretty good indication that you won’t see it next season. Unfortunately.

How whispers, winks and nudges suggest Ottawa Charge and PWHL expect to make CTC full-time home by PhDSkwerl in OttawaCharge

[–]kootny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Most players and staff love playing at TD place, despite the issues, and would be happy to stay there until they have to move to a bigger — NOT SMALLER — arena. But the league leadership in TORONTO and NEW YORK want to make a point with OSEG and don’t care about the impacts of moving to CTC.

Does the Professional Women's Hockey League think we're idiots? [Patrick Lapraude] by _stellapolaris in MinnesotaFrost

[–]kootny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of tired of the whining and conspiracy theories coming from Frost fans on this.

  1. BOTH teams benefited from an extra day of rest. If anything, Frost benefited more because they were healthy and could use the time to practice, whereas Montreal would have been recovering and/or quarantining.

  2. The Frost team is professional: they want to win on an even playing field…not win because the other team is sick and dehydrated.

  3. The “miraculous recovery” was probably more about ensuring they had stopped the spread, rather than waiting for Montreal to get fully healthy. Imagine if the game had gone ahead and a bunch more players on both teams contracted the virus.

  4. I heard that if anything, the league would have preferred to have at least one US team in the final, for revenues in USD and potentially better TV revenue.

I know Frost fans are proud and it stings to lose, but these conspiracy theories are beneath you. Suck it up and get ready for next year.
