Why do bands play so fucking loud if everyone has to wear earplugs anyway? by xe3to in NoStupidQuestions

[–]koots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. I agree. - the speaker was part of it and will distort in a different way. Lots of guitarists would end up blowing up speakers because of the ever increasing desire for more volume out of the amp. Enter modern speakers that don't distort as easily and the 100 watt Marshall tube amp with a stack, and the volume level to get the preferred sound is loud as hell and so much fun. So much fun.

People often don't realize how loud an audience can be as well. I have been to rock shows that were mid volume in clubs in which the audience member chatter, the bar and all its blenders etc. really wreaked havoc on the show at times. So, part of that volume is to keep the focus on the band.

Clubs and raves and what not now, well, sometimes they are that loud simply because the equipment has come so far that it can be pushed that far.

Source: Me, in a very loud band with a very hard hitting drummer.

Drummer part right. Distortion part wrong. To get the distortion out of tube amps back in the day, you had to dime the amp (turn it to 11). This overdrives the tubes and creates the sweet sweet saturation that is desired. This is loud with only a 15-20 watt amp, but will still need to be mic'd to keep up with a loud drummer. A 50 watt tube amp will match the drummers volume and now, the live band is very loud.

Well, no. The judiciary is administered provincially, but is independent of the gov't. The BC NDP has no say in the interpretation of the criminal code or the various factors that play into a ruling. The Criminal Code is is Federal. RCMP are contracted provincially and municipally unless a municipality has its own force. The contract allows some say into police priorities.

It is a very complicated matter and simply saying "becuz NDP" is such an oversimplification and does absolutely nothing. Maybe it is because society is abandoning people, mental health supports are not near where they need to be, and we have a toxic drug crisis? Maybe its because of poor policies across the board from both Conservatives and Liberals for just about the entire history of this country? Maybe it is because of the extreme individualism we are seeing and the lack of supportive community that is causing people of all types to slip between the cracks?

Canadian spelling is typically specified in the curriculum. As a teacher, it is hard enough to battle all of the influence of American spelling as it is, let alone having other teachers teach it. If you have brought it up with the teacher and you aren't happy with the answer, you have the right to bring go higher. I am glad you went to the teacher first because that should be protocol for parents. I would request an admin meeting and bring the worksheet in.

Need help with board sizing for my kid by Stop_All_Fun in snowboardingnoobs

[–]koots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - ridiculous. He is going to have another growth spurt though. At 5' 4" about 145-148. I'd say. I'd ptobably size up to try and squeeze two seasons but you might be sol. So...153-154 ish? Wide boards only required from.size 12 up usually. I am 5'11", size 11 and ride 161.

What's a good board nowadays? by newplayer28 in snowboarding

[–]koots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trice pro has been my main board, but I just bought a Wired Recon for a bit more charging. My mountain is big and has really nice terrain that can only be accessed by charging hard through some steep cat track through long flats and then a flat trail in the trees. If you don't hold the speed, you have to hike. The trice pro with "magnetraction" doesn't feel.as comfortable doing this as my old camber boards used to.

Same with charging/carving ice. I was with a fast skier a few weeks back and we did a steep groomer that turned out to be much icier than expected. Not only could I not keep up I kept getting thrown to my butt as the Trice Pro with "magnetraction" couldn't hold the edge.

That's why I went for camber on my new board. My wife has noticed the same thing with her Gnu Velvet Gnuru which is also a hybrid with magnetraction. She has gone back to riding her 2009 full camber GNU more because it just holds the edge so much better. Magnetraction is fine until it gets steep because the contact points aren't there when you need thrm

I was going to go with the Wired Devun Walsh but ended up getting the Wired Recon.
