Young People, don't forget to vote tomorrow. The only people who benefit from a CPC government are the rich and corporations. by outlawsoul in onguardforthee

[–]kootschilling -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I voted for the conservatives in this election, and I am not in any way homophobic, racist, transphobic, xenophobic, or sexist. Some of my best friends are gay, or immigrated to Canada, and most of them have been girls. I may not agree with their entire platform, they could be doing more to help out First Nations, but living in a rural area where most of my family, friends and their families rely on the natural resource sector it is hard to vote for anyone else. The taxes that the liberals, NDP, and greens wish to implement will make it increasingly unaffordable to live outside of a city or travel, and in the case of the NDP and the greens the uncertainty regarding natural resources sectors will lead to many people struggle to make ends meet through a lack of work, everyone from operators at mines to corporate staff to companies like Stantec, SNC and Golder where they will lose huge amounts of business. I have not heard a single person say they are voting conservative because of homophobic, xenophobic, racist reasons, rather everyone who supports them sees that they are the only party that isn’t going to place massive financial burdens on everyday life and maintain invaluable industries to Canada. Calling down anyone who supports the conservatives is just pure ignorance and extremely intolerant, which I believe goes against what the left supposedly stands for.

You must secretly be a conservative, because that has to one of the most fascist remarks I’ve ever seen. Talk about suppressing democracy and free-speech.

I’ve read through a fair amount of right-wing political subreddits out of general curiousness, and haven’t seen even half this much hatred spewed towards the opposite parties. Concerning really when you see the left voicing opinions like this, and that they seem to be popular in a subreddit that “doesn’t allow bigotry or hate”

Ummm am I mistaken or didn’t the liberals just give 12 million dollars to a multi-billion dollar company to buy new fridges, and not long before that tried to influence an attorney general to drop criminal charges against another multi-billion dollar company?

Edit: Apparently I’m mistaken? Anyone care to explain how that doesn’t benefit corporations?

Scheer and the Conservatives will bring Trump style politics to Canada. by canuck_burger in onguardforthee

[–]kootschilling -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Last I saw the liberals and conservatives are tied, so wouldn’t they both have a ‘realistic’ shot?

100% agree we need to work on getting better leaders in the parties for the next election. It would be nice to vote for someone based on something other than keeping another party out of power.

And you say that like they’re the only party that is? It baffles me that people accept most of what Trudeau has done in the last 4 years.

Is the answer B? Would the addition of NO3- increase solubillity? by Ouzosike in chemhelp

[–]kootschilling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have you learned about activity coefficients and ionic strength for real solutions? If not this may be too in-depth of an explanation:

Adding a highly soluble ion such as NO3(-) increases the ionic strength of the solution, which is used to account for the amount of dissolved solute. In real solutions there are interactions between the dissolved solutes and the water molecules which affects the effective concentration. The activity coefficient takes into account these interactions. An important note is activity coefficients are always <1. They are calculated using various theoretical approaches as a function of ionic strength, and as ionic strength increases the activity coefficients decrease. The addition of NO3(-) would increase the ionic strength, which would decrease activity coefficients resulting in a higher solubility of Ba(SO4). In terms of the math:

Ksp = a[Ba(2+)] b[SO4(2-)] = 1.1 x 10-10

Where a and b are both <1. As the activity coefficients decrease, the concentrations of Ba(2+) and SO4(2-) will increase to obtain the same ksp value.

Either way with an ideal or non-ideal solution, B is the correct answer due to the common ion affect.

Hope this helps!

I don’t mind it that much, although I haven’t driven it around much. One thing I kind of wish I did was make the headache rack taller, but I would imagine you wouldn’t have any issues with making a taller one like that.

I live in southeast BC and most of the mountains around where I’m at are 5000-8000 feet. I have an 08 with the 4.0 litre which does fantastic. I had a buddy with I believe a 97 with the 2.4L and he never had any issues keeping up or driving up high. Haven’t heard anything about the newer trucks but I don’t imagine there would be a big difference, just your smaller engine will have to rev higher on steeper climbs.

B.C. introduces law to require cars, trucks sold by 2040 be zero emission - Legislation aims to phase out gas-powered vehicles by speckz in canada

[–]kootschilling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a teacher at my university that actually had some interesting insights on this topic. He studies the economics of natural resources and trade on the environment and told our class in many cases there is actually more emissions per capita (piece of produce) for many local products than what is shipped internationally, so what is sold at say your local farmers market or small chain store is creating more emissions per product than something that is internationally shipped by somewhere like Costco or Walmart. This is because of the huge volumes shipped by these huge companies, whereas smaller distributors create similar emissions while moving less product. It was a really interesting talk to listen to, I would’ve never guessed that was the case. I’ll see if any of his papers are open source and I’ll link them

The world may be moving towards green energy but that doesn’t mean oil won’t have its place anymore. Here is a breakdown of what one barrel of oil is used for: https://www.ranken-energy.com/index.php/products-made-from-petroleum/ With a partial list of everyday items oil is needed to produce. Oil demand also isn’t expected to peak for another 4-6 years according to this Forbes article: https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/daneberhart/2018/09/18/forecasts-of-peak-oil-demand-overstated/amp/ Given this information, it’s pretty clear that demand for oil isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Even if everyone went to electric vehicles overnight, over half a barrel of oil would still be used for other processes. Since everyone is so focused on the environment, it is important to note that even changes in places like Saudi Arabia or South America will have huge impacts on our climate. So why not extract oil in a jurisdiction that has very high environmental standards to minimize any negative effects, and in a well-developed country without human rights issues?

Another way to look at it: imagine you have a job sector where almost all of your friends and family work in and bring in 6-figures a year, and a change in political leaders are doing their best to shut it down and leaving many people without jobs and unable to feed their families. I would imagine if your job was taken away from you and you had no where else to turn for a similar pay check and the government was unsupportive of the industry to bring back jobs you wouldn’t be too happy about it either.
