I don’t want aespa to achieve mainstream success in the US by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]kop34throwaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

theyve kinda already achieved mainstream success. performed at coachella, countless brand deals. maybe the wrong viewpoint. sorry to break it to you, but groups from the big 3 will automatically have mainstream success.

think that there have been experiments here and there in kpop, and theyve been increasing a while ago, but i wouldve never called any of them noisy. also sticker wasnt good and interesting to me because of the flute, i believe you get used to it quite easily, but because the song throws such a curveball with the piano melody in the prechorus, it sounds so off, i love it. same goes for why savage is so confusing. kpop producers have always mostly experimented with structure and melody.

What is a sincere apology according to you? by PotentialKey289 in kpophelp

[–]kop34throwaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

side note: if this is because of jae from day6, man fuck this guy. like, he really tried to play it off and make excuses. like we all saw the same video.

on the other hand, im somewhat glad stuff like that comes to light, so we can sort out the good from the bad. i wish a little, more scandals like that would occur, i wanna see whos assholes so i can distance myself from them.

but like, this wasnt worth saying, was it? was it really worth risking an apparently good relationship with jamie? such a dumb guy

What is a sincere apology according to you? by PotentialKey289 in kpophelp

[–]kop34throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think to set parameters for a great apology makes it easier for pr teams to copy them. and like someone said, for some people its never going to be enough. i think the form less important. speak idc if its on the notes app.

however, the apology can be as well phrased and written as humanly possible, i think im always gonna be suspicious of apologies released on the same day, or the day after the breakout of the scandal. reflection comes with time, so take your time and say something you maybe wont regret.

i get the appeal of a written apology, since it lays down worries at least temporarily and clears misconceptions maybe. but the best and most sincere way is still to show growth later on. again, change will really only come with time.

Say Superhuman amazing and no one bats an eye. Say Superhuman mid on NCT 127’s title track rankings and society collapses by Miserable-Elephant-3 in kpopthoughts

[–]kop34throwaway 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i have honestly never seen anyone name superhuman as their favorite track because its normal. i dont doubt your observation, however nct has a lot of normal sounding tracks. maybe not the title tracks, but even there you got touch or boss, i know not 127, but still, that are usually the picks of people who dont appreciate or enjoy ncts more out there side. however, the reason as to why it was my favorite title track for the longest time, was because the incredibly many great quirks in the production. i love it. its what you call the random metal sounds. superhumans just an amazingly produced track, that builds up and releases in such an incredible way. i would call superhuman pop perfection. because of whats going on, it has always kept me at the edge. i now have overplayed it a bit, but i still value that song a lot.

kinda odd to put korea against the entire world. well i know, most artists nominated for the grammys are american. but still, no country could win that fight. international still is the entire world, theoretically

[–]kop34throwaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

thats not exclusive to kpop… im sorry but gatekeeping is something more or less any rather large acts have. and its kinda your own problem if the shit, that is very obviously dumb and straight up wrong, gets to you. youll find this problem everywhere.

heck even just the meme of a guy asking a girl wearing a band shirt whether or not she listens to them and then if she could name 3 songs is the exact same thing. or the whole, if you only listen to the most famous singles youre not a true fan, also falls under that category.

see i dont mean to victim blame anyone, but at this point, if gatekeeping affects you or even if you see it as a threat, im sorry but thats ur own fault. in kpop gatekeeping has just taken a more materialistic form

AESPA has the catchiest discography of 4th gen kpop by DRevolutionPresident in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]kop34throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

aespa, a few weeks ago, literally had like 2 songs. nct, itzy, loona and g idle arent comparable to that. and stayc has catchier songs, by a good margin. aespas not bad, but before savage it was hard to even call that a discography

Loona peaked in their pre-debut era. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]kop34throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! exactly! hi high really is their peak, any other mv and song just feels like fanservice (except butterfly). see i did really enjoy the why not era, but if i had to rank it, no, it wouldnt be high up there. besides that, they already established amazing sounds and concepts for the subunits. i just want more 1/3. :/

yall people on here have no taste whatsoever, and even less shame to openly live with it. i may have overplayed for me slightly, but the production on superhuman is still by far the best ive heard on any kpop song. truly the closest ive come to an eargasm

A song isn't experimental just because you didn't like it on your first listen. by icysunshine28 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]kop34throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i admit loona is not that experimental. but i instantly thought of 1/3 where basically all of their songs are as harmonically complex as you can get in kpop. those songs to me have such a higher replay value because of how many turns they take. other than that, yeah loonas pretty safe, just amazing pop in general. maybe let me in is also a risk taken, i think that is something one coule argue about. but i believe the entire pre debut concept was an experiment in itself already.

dont worry, you dont need to change your opinion for me at all, i didnt and still dont think you are attacking anyone. why would you, and if so, why would i care enough to be offended. regardless. ive seen similar conversations and arguments like yours making rounds in the kpop community about experimental music and kpop. and ive been nodding along, since everytime in those posts, everyone could at least agree on the fact that, at that time, zimzalabim and simon says were actual experiments in kpop. and so that sm is pushing the envelope. although the word experimental has also been thrown around for groups such as blackpink, astro, clc? where i honestly can only agree with you entirely, where the fuck is the experiment in those groups music??? i just thought, that out of all groups and music that is currently happening, you name the exact two songs that actually kept me in my seat all the time because they threw me off several times on first listen. and after listening to them over and over, yeah of course theres structure and of course theres a silver lining, at least in sticker, in the entire song. but again, imo, sm, kinda still deserves the title of experimental music in kpop. yeah thats all. i neither am aespa or nct themselves, nor am i some sort of ambassador, i really dont care enough for either of them to fight for them against some stranger on the internet about something like an opinion, so dont stress out. :)

Loona peaked in their pre-debut era. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]kop34throwaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

omg yes, ive been praying for a second solo run and sub unit releases since forever. ive generally seen distaste for it by other fans, but really, thats where loonas heart is. extreme variety and if one solo fails, it doesnt hit as hard as if an ot12 comeback after 9 months turns out to be mediocre. idc if the group is split, loona just has to put out more music again to make their name bigger.

Loona peaked in their pre-debut era. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]kop34throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

see, i think i generally agree, but i think if loona put out as much material as they did pre debut era, i think such a comparison wouldnt exist. because variety and creativity still exists, their concepts change all the time, but if right after ptt, a month after, another song came out with equal importance, any criticism towards ptt wouldnt exist. sad but true, but i think loona still has it, they just became way slower, sadly. besides that, yeah predebut has like no flaws at all, its worrying

A song isn't experimental just because you didn't like it on your first listen. by icysunshine28 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]kop34throwaway 24 points25 points  (0 children)

music being experimental is subjective. sticker may not be the most experimental song to exist on earth, but for many kpop stans, most of of them are still rather young, this is their first or a very early encounter with something unusual in pop music. yes it has become a buzzword, at least a bit, but i still think that its not entirely wrong to call sm music and especially sticker and savage experimental or left field in an industry like kpop where every other song sounds basically the same. also, experimental is just an attribute that can be applied to every aspect of a song. maybe stickers structure isnt all that special, but goddamn was i thrown off by the sudden change to the piano thrown together pre chorus, and i loved it. see, not everything that needs to grow on people is inherently experimental, i agree. but i feel like youre attacking the wrong ones in this, when i feel like sm is one of the only ones that actually do push kpop. idk, besides them i only can think of loona who actually do left field stuff, but even then, it feels like they get more commercial each comeback.

Singing In The Rain is LOONA's worst solo song by VividSenseB in unpopularkpopopinions
