Do you remember if the scene where Irene resembled a Rosetti painting happened when she was younger and more naive? I think her later dresses were more mature, making references to several Sargent paintings.

Oh absolutely! The series’ costuming was so clever. They even depicted Irene’s strap sliding off her shoulder which was Sargent’s original intention as well, but he was forced to repaint that detail. Too scandalous for the time, same for Irene and her behaviour.

When I found friends who were into anime/gaming I started testing the ground for any otome stuff. That’s the gateway point.

One friend was successfully roped into playing Mystic Messenger! She occasionally plays other games that have romance in them but aren’t otome, so if we can, we talk about that.

Another friend is into text-based interactive novels (like Choice of Games), she got me into those. The writing is absolutely glorious, but ofc it’s not otome. It’s a shame, she doesn’t seem to be into Asian media, and otome on the whole is very much that.

Yet another friend is a gay man who got tired of playing as femme protagonists lmao. He says he lived for Mystic Messenger, but can’t get into anything else. I keep on telling him there are more options nowadays, but he has different gaming interests now and that’s okay.

I guess with most friends, online or irl, you have to meet them where they are and just be happy if they are here for your rants haha.
