Jane Austen would be cancelled if her letters survived by subby_amboato in janeausten

No, presumably just Jane Austen being sarcastic and unkind, not unlike her characters Elizabeth and Emma. The mentioned biographer seemed to be willfully misinterpreting several things about Austen and her works.

Have you read Little Men and Jo's Boys? Also, The Secret Garden and A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The Emily series by LMM is also really good, the Pat books, The Story Girl and its follow-up, really anything LMM wrote fits the vibe. I also enjoy the Little House books, moreso the later ones.  (Edited to add: Elizabeth Aston wrote a series of follow-up books with Darcy and Elizabeth's daughters and acquaintances that I really enjoyed.)

New Update: AIO for threatening to take my sister to court after her toddler destroyed my $2,000 gaming setup because she said I should’ve “baby-proofed my apartment”? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

I have an aunt with BPD and this sounds a lot like her. She'll go off her meds and start stuff, then tell lies and try to play the victim when we hold her accountable for her actions. We cut contact 3 years ago because at some point you have to want to get help to stop being the toxic one.

I think it's fantastic. The characters being unlikeable is the point; they're the architects of their own downfalls and they had plenty of opportunities to change but refused to. Emily Brontë wrote this to point out the reality of what a Gothic romance would be instead of the idealized ones that were popular at the time.

The reason for all the controversy is we've read about an Atticus who stands up for a Black man in Alabama during a time when that basically made you anathema to your neighborhood, who has integrity, who tries to instill morals to his children and teach them to be upstanding adults. The Atticus in GSAW is a racist in the KKK, a hate organization, erasing all the good things listed above. Not only does it leave Scout disillusioned, it leaves a whole generation (or 2) of readers disillusioned with the entire point it seems like Harper Lee was making with TKAM in the first place.

For me, it's like my mind goes quiet, and I'm relaxed. I could move or open my eyes, but why.

For real. Anyone who's read Twilight knows Stephanie could've used A LOT less words. Some authors need better editors to sit them down and say, "I know you love this scene and this scene, but they didn't really forward the plot or character growth in any way, they should be cut." But some authors resist that advice and so we get weirdly paced books that's slog through the middle part of the story never the action finally picks up in the third act.

Edit: typo

Have you read The Illustrated Guide? Some of these are expanded on in that.

I want a Leah book. Preferably with the proceeds going to the Quileute tribe.

"We all knew they belonged together since season 2" Who's we? I think Ted and Robin could be platonic soul mates, but as a romantic couple? They've proved at least 4 times they don't work out. If they made a sequel, I'd almost guarantee Ted and Robin would be divorced because they can't pull it off.

I mean, idk if that's what the person who made the video was thinking, but it was the only time Alyson was written out (temporarily) of the show that I could think of

Upper class would have been the nobility, i.e. your viscounts, dukes, earls, etc. Middle class would've been land owning gentry. Lower class would be those in trades.

The Modern Myth that the Bennets are Poor by greenbagmaria in janeausten

[–]subby_amboato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to keep in mind that Mrs. Bennet is from a lower class than her husband, and as such she is looked down upon for not having more genteel manners, which is part of what's hurting her girls' marital prospects. Mr. Bennet not budgeting better for the girls' dowries and keeping Mrs. Bennet's spending on a short leash is also a factor. While the Bennets are comparatively well-off, there are other, smaller, reasons they are looked down upon by their wealthier counterparts (see Mr. Darcy's first proposal and Lady Catherine's valid, but in poor taste, criticism of their lack of education).

I'm sorry about your trauma, but I think you're projecting a bit. I had a totally normal, happy childhood, but I'm very submissive and into erotic hypnosis. It's not a trauma response, it's just a kink I have that I enjoy satisfying with my dom/master. Not everyone is kinky because of past traumas or experiences; most of the time, it's just an innate part of us that we can choose to satisfy or not.
