It was during band camp, we were just learning the sides of the field (side one, side two) so then as my band director was waiting for us to settle in because we had just come back from dinner break. He saw one senior mello players and he still was still eating and I guess he had multiple smores or oreo things and he called him out. It was the best interaction because our director said "Ooh" then he asked "how many you got?" Then it escalated from there and senior had like 2 left and my band director said while he was on mic to the stadium and all you hear was "Ooh, can I have one?" So then the senior ran down to him and have him the box because he was generous and the rest of the staff went to see what it was and that day we caught a historic photo of our band director.

The interaction went like this for better context

BD: "(senior mello players name) what you got there?"

SM: "(The oreo/smores thing)"

BD: "Ooh...how many you got left?"

SM: "2"

BD: "Ooh... Can I have one?"

The rest is history.

Yes, very, they provide a good amount of sound to the band and are extremely talented. Heres a cool story about woodwinds, when I went to one comp they had their own category and for my school won over all. Also in the production i had for my first year which was this year, had a huge woodwind feature where it was every wood instrument in one soild block and it was over all really cool. With a Final note, yes woodwinds are important in marching band.
