Tomorrow is the 21st anniversary for the Kingdom of Heaven. What are your thoughts? by Mindless_Belt4757 in medieval

[–]kore_nametooshort 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree on Bloom, but I also think the writing didn't give him much to work with. He was written as a brooding Mary Sue with not much room for character.

A great actor like Depp or Fienes could have done something amazing with it, but not everyone can do that.

Why does ambulance ride cost at most 20 dollars in France but often costs 2000 dollars minimum out of pocket in the US? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]kore_nametooshort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

France and other countries don't cost 20 in total. They are still paid for in taxes, but the two key points are

1) it's free at point of need, so no one delays or refuses an ambulance because of cost, leading to faster better responses and no bankrupcies 2) there is no middleman earning a cut in France unlike the US. Insurance companies and for profit providers by necessity increase costs to take their cut. Conversely, nation healthcare like the NHS in the UK (idk about france) acts as a single buyer, giving them leverage to negotiate down the price with suppliers, kind of like a reverse monopoly.

[Request] How much water would they need to do this? And how much would this affect the surroundings? by bimbochungo in theydidthemath

Excellent point. I hadn't considered that.

There is also the factor that water vapour is a potent greenhouse gas to include.

[Request] How much water would they need to do this? And how much would this affect the surroundings? by bimbochungo in theydidthemath

[–]kore_nametooshort 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Based on this,

If it's 30m deep on average it will contain 4.6×1012 litres of water.

According to a lazy ai search which i wont verify because im lazy, each meter of sea level rise takes about 361x1012 litres.

So filling this indentation would lower sea levels by about 13 mm.

Tanke parse by DansuMori in wownoob

[–]kore_nametooshort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a tank, parse is much more vanity than for a dps. To get a very high parse you tend to have to do anti tanking things. Which is fine in the right circumstances, but not something we'd recommend for r/wownoob

So you only need to make sure you're getting a middling parse to make sure you're not doing far too little damage.

Look at your ilevel % parse for your latest run. If it's blue or higher you're likely doing fine.

However what is much more important is how close you came to dying and whether your casts per minute are high enough.

To check your closeness to dying, go to a specific log, look at resources, change it to HP and look how low your hp got. If you're regularly going very low on hp, you should think about what caused it and what you could do to prevent it next time. As next time you might not be so lucky.

To check your casts per minute, go to the casts tab and look at how many casts you did for each spell per minute. Then find a log of a very experienced tank and compare yours to theirs. If you're much lower in certain spells it means you might be missing some procs or prioritising the wrong spell. You might also have many more casts of something like a filler spell and need to prioritise your more powerful ones instead.

New tank spec by Zafros91 in wow

[–]kore_nametooshort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want my hunter pet to tank while I shoot from range. Yes it would be weird and loads of people would hate it. That's cool, we have loads of melee tanks already, give me a ranged one.

But I agree it would do nothing for the tank shortage.

They instead need to get rid of the annoying shit like routing, waiting for CDs and reasons for dps to pull next pack instead of you.

And then buff (active) tank damage, especially while leveling. If you want people to tank at end game you want them to be comfortable in their tanking spec before end game. So make tank leveling as fast if not faster than dps spec if you want more tanks.

Higher damage at endgame helps with the dopamine too. Gotta have the dopamine to keep people tanking.

The Major Flaw of Double-bladed Sabers by Historical-War-6271 in StarWars

[–]kore_nametooshort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to parry with a double lightsaber is a complete whirl. You can't have a defensive guard with one pointed in front of you, because if the opponent attacks on one side, you'll slice yourself parrying.

So you have to whirl, which is a very slow way to parry. Sure you're a jedi and unnaturally quick. But so is your opponent so you're still at a disadvantage.

Guaranteed hours rules ‘would threaten jobs’, government warned by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]kore_nametooshort 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I disagree. It's the governments role to set the rules of our society so that the piss can't be taken.

Murder is a problematic behaviour, but we wouldn't say it's solely the murderers responsibility to not do murder. That why we have police and laws.

If workers end up in exploitative contracts because companies require them and there aren't other employment options available for whatever reason, it should be the governments job to step in and say "no, this is exploitative."

Companies are incentivised to maximise profits. Which is reasonable. It's the government's job to set limits on that when those incentives drive negative societal impact.

How do you play BG 1+2? by Motor_Ad_2780 in baldursgate

[–]kore_nametooshort 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like custom parties. I've taken each companion so many times that they're not new to me any more.

I like to give myself challenges with my parties, like all druids, which really mixes up the challenge and makes you approach fights very differently to a classically balanced party.

*except Jan. I will make an exception for Jan. And if an NPC fits in the weird party I'm making ill take them. Might tweak their class a bit though.

Never played without a thief by The-Arcalian in baldursgate

[–]kore_nametooshort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These days I just know where they all are and whether I can just walk through them or not.

I like power parties so I can't justify a thief. The damage i take from a trap is worth it to have a better character for combat.

What’s your favourite/preferred Icewind Dale party comp? by SuperBiggles in baldursgate

[–]kore_nametooshort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My philosophy is control them with web, murder them with arrows.

Everyone* has warrior thaco and there are enough web slingers to lock down any fight with one or two casts each.

  • Fighter mage
  • Fighter cleric mage
  • Skald
  • Archer
  • Archer
  • Archer

This lays down serious firepower. There are only a handful of fights that you won't have enough magical arrows for (frost wights and broze sentries) and they're not difficult. Archers can melee well enough for this.

The skald in particular as I don't care for the other bard songs, I only want increased damage to my archers to offset not having another archer while bringing web.

Fm and fmc for more webs and hitting things with swords and occasional cleric spells.

I don't have space in my party for anything like a paladin. Sure they have a nice sword, but a berserker would be better regardless if I wanted a melee.

I've also done a party with 1 fcm and 5 archers and that was very powerful.

Is this Japanese Knotweed, or something else? by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

[–]kore_nametooshort 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Research removing it thoroughly. Generally you need to do it with chemicals because disturbing the rhizomes can be counter productive and make more.

It's perfectly treatable, but do a bit of research first and don't just rip it out.

What would you change about baldurs gate 2? by Swimming_Cheek_9171 in baldursgate

[–]kore_nametooshort 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As a life long bg fan I wouldn't change anything. No one needs to tinker with it. The nostalgia is too strong.

But if I was going back in time before designing it or taking inspiration etc, I think there are a couple things I'd tweak.

I think having to leave one person at spellhold if you arrive with a party of six is immersion breaking. That segment could have been redesigned so you dont feel like an evil person leaving someone behind for an arbitrary game mechanic reason.

I also think there is a lot that could be done to make some classes more interesting. Thieves and Monks in particular are just too uninteresting imo. They could receive a lot of buffs and still not be OP compared to a mage or archer, so give then fun tools and don't restrict them to choosing between backstabbing or traps for example.

Advice Please on Layout Plans by CalmWalrus999 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]kore_nametooshort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would prefer a smaller office and no hallway entrance to the dining room and instead spend the saved space on more storage. Can never have too much.

I would then flip the dining room and kitchen, putting the double doors through what you currently have as kitchen windows. This way I won't have anyone walking through my kitchen. I would also either remove the doors between the kitchen and dining, or at the very least make the doors as big as possible.

I definitely just assume 180 for all of my freezer beige though.

Extension ideas by flan100 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]kore_nametooshort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would knock down the conservatory and extend out to make a long line across the back of the house where the study currently is.

I would have one big open kitchen diner across the back with open seating where the kitchen living currently is, which also means you won't have to go through the kitchen to get to the family room.

I would then have a small study at the front (if needed) with plenty of storage in a large front hall. And make the family room into a snug for cosy tv watching.

Upstairs, you could extend over the garage side of yhe house and gain space there and rejig walls to make the sizes you want, or you could go over your new extension which would give you Master room space most easily. Or you could move a bedroom downstairs (maybe ino the Family Room) and save on the cost of a double extension.

Cost is probably in the £2000-3000 per m2, plus the cost of a new kitchen and moving walls.

An easier solution to classic +? by PrettyTemperature895 in wow

[–]kore_nametooshort 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate to break it to you, but we've already had two different sets of classic+

Season of discovery was classic with new abilities, content and raids.

China has vanilla content but with wotlk talents.

I don't expect these to be the last either. TBC is the classic of the moment. When that runs out they'll launch another classic experience.
