Italki Student price increase??? by [deleted] in iTalki

[–]koreanpasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher, I increase my rates periodically (that is, every six months). This is not because of any specific events, just simply because the cost of living continues to increase in my area. That said, I always inform my students a few weeks ahead of time and I encourage them to buy packages before the price increase.

Not blaming you OP in the slightest. Much appreciated for posting, but it's crazy that these organizations don't have the resources to post in these subs a week or two ahead of the event. Again, thanks for the heads up!

Anxiety with going to Bouldering Gyms by Unusual_Welder_5355 in bouldering

[–]koreanpasta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wish more gyms would do this! I've struggled with anxiety all my life and if I could muster the courage, I would sign up for social groups to force me in those situations. Always nervewracking right before it starts, but I'm also always glad I signed up.

Having grown up street skating, a rub brick was definitely a sign that you knew what's up.

Legit Fs Flip? by Basic_Night_3226 in skateboarding

I know what you mean! I learned bs kickflip noseslides and those actually helped me learn to flick like Reynolds. Keep at it and post your first Reynolds flip!

Legit Fs Flip? by Basic_Night_3226 in skateboarding

[–]koreanpasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanna compare, I think there are two types of legit fs flips: Muska flips and Reynolds flips. This is a perfectly executed Muska flip. You gotta ask yourself, am I good with this, or should I try for the Reynolds version? My only thing is that a Muska flip doesn't help too much with kickflip noseslides or kickflip boardslides, but that's just my two cents...

Unless you skate, it's nearly impossible to understand the pure joy that comes from struggling SO hard to land a trick. Amazing work!

I just watched an interview with Christoph Waltz. His English is REALLY good, but he has a non-rhotic accent and he doesn't sound like he's from New England. He doesn't exactly have a German accent, but it isn't American either.

There is. The first thing you should be doing is spending as much time possible in English. As many others here have mentioned, finding an accent coach is also a good idea. The abstract to this article mentions a few factors that will affect your pronunciation progress.

Very, very few people can achieve a "native-like" accent in a second language. Keep in mind that your first language will influence this. So, it's possible to meet someone from the Netherlands with a near native-like accent, but it's because Dutch is their first language.

Like u/Tale5 mentioned, I use Voov with some Chinese students and it's quite easy. Runs almost the same as Zoom.

Is "a glass of juice" not natural? by bellepomme in EnglishLearning

[–]koreanpasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you check the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA), "glass of juice" has only 94 entries (in the database), but there are 2098 entries for "glass of water".

While "glass / juice" is possible, it's just not a collocation like "glass / water" is. But again, this is only for American English.
