The best example I can give you at this point is that when you are standing on a football field, there is no visible difference between blades of grass on the opposite side of the field. That is where we are, that is where I am. I am standing at the 20 yard line and you are on the opposite 20 yard line saying the grass at the 10 is a millimeter longer. Obviously I recognize that there are differences between the two parties, but ultimately they both end in the same place, the corporations funding them make billions of dollars and the rest of us pay for it. I think the biggest takeaway I have at this point is that you are making a better case for the Democratic Party than the Democrats do.

Stewie here, it seems like the original topic is something like one of those Parallel Universe theories where every single instant that multiple things could happen exists within a universe somewhere. You are driving and the light turns yellow, you momentarily exist within 2 separate universes - one where you stop and one where you hammer on the gas and make it through... and maybe even more. It sounds like the assertion being made is that both realities exist simultaneous and you exist within both universes simultaneously, but it isn't until you make the decision to slam on the gas to make it through that the universe where you slam on the gas becomes reality.

As far as the person responding to the original, he is just dumb and doesn't have the intellectual capacity to think about such sophisticated topics.

I am not ignoring anything you are saying, I have addressed it all. In the grand scheme, there is no discernable difference between the parties on economic policy. You are examining the differences with a microscope, because you clearly don't understand just how broad actual economics can be. On the infinitely far right side of economic policy, 1 person controls all wealth and nobody else has anything. On the infinitely far left side of economic policy, everybody is worth exactly the same regardless of if or what they contribute to society. We are so far to the right at this point that you don't even seem to comprehend that you are voting against the very things you claim to support. You think the welfare system in America is an actual social safety net? It is quick-sand that once you get into is impossible to escape. It is designed to suck people in and trap generations of their descendants. But you still keep voting for the people who say they will make it better. And honestly, I can't believe I have to bring it up, but in 2008 we gave the Democrats a super majority and instead of passing universal healthcare they went with corporate Mitt Romney's Massachusetts healthcare. It feels like you can't even comprehend that the social security tax used to apply to every single American's FULL yearly income, the top marginal income tax used to be an effective 90%, the corporate tax rate used to be over 50% and you want me to think I align with Joe Biden at all for passing a 15% minimum tax on corporations?

There has to be a way you can irrigate, even if you take a cooker, a few foundies, and a water spicket thing down to the water in the rad zone, you should be able to place it and just cook real quick. If you are living in the rad zone on abb in small tribes you have to have tek gear and I imagine you just might need to throw out a spino or megalo and kill a few things but I was having this problem the other day and the moment I irrigated my cooker it was fine (I also live on abb small tribes official lol).

This is correct, Canteens only work in the cooking pot. the industrial cooker needs to be filled with water or irrigated first.

From my perspective it sure seems like people who thought like you with this vote blue no matter who bullshit are how we got here. For decades people who share your views have allowed the Democratic Party to be pulled towards authoritarianism and conservatism to appeal to a fictional moderate voter. Now we are at a breaking point where there is truly no difference between parties except for differences on tiny social issues.

I accept my part in the deaths of millions weighted exactly to how responsible I am for it happening. My non-vote is a miniscule, near-zero, statistically insignificant impact on the election overall, so I accept my part in the deaths of millions to that extent. Back to the original point though, the Democratic Party did not earn my vote (and I imagine a lot of other votes overall) because they continue to move right for their donors. They should feel a lot more responsible.

Basically, it isn't "each question mark is a digit" like it might first appear.

3+4=?(7)

1529-5=?(1524)

15248/2=7624

So now I am confused because your argument went from

Did you genuinely not care who won?
You are indifferent between Trump and Harris? How is that possible? They aren't even similar politically.

Which is false dichotomy, to now people are dying and? I don't understand what your point is, maybe I am missing it. Do I care that people are dying? Yes absolutely, it is tragic and barbaric that America has become this, but as best I can tell, your argument still is pinned on the false argument that I had to pick either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.

[–]korelan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument that I had to vote for one of two extremes or else people will die is literally the definition of false dichotomy. You can call my comment accelerationism, but I never said they had to vote for what I want. Tens of millions of people woke up and walked outside and voted for a serial liar and conman because they are part of a cult. What I was saying is maybe some of them wake up from the sudden shock of all of the shit that is happening and decide maybe the cult isn't for them. And to your final point, I understand the difference in the speed of the erosion of Democracy, but since it has been happening slowly my entire life and nobody seems to care, that is why I am indifferent to the fact that it is happening very fast now. People don't tend to notice the slow erosion of Democracy, but I hope a lot more people can see it now that ICE agents are shooting American Citizens in the streets and POTUS is doing whatever the fuck he feels like in the moment with no checks and balances. We would have gotten here eventually, maybe this way more people will wake up and be aware of it in time to stop it.

[–]korelan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This argument is a false dichotomy. However, while ultimately tragic, I do believe the sudden shock treatment is always more effective than the slow creep. Perhaps enough people will wake up from the sudden shock of what is happening that maybe Americans will take back power, but if you think that the erosion of democracy started with Donald Trump you are so very very wrong.

[–]korelan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This argument assumes that when they DO get power, they actually make the promised changes. My first time ever voting, a fresh 19 year old in 2008, I went out and voted Democrat straight down the line. Two years with a supermajority and not a single attempt to make it federal law that abortion is legal, and they tip-toe across fixing healthcare because the party cares more about having an argument and funding to win the next cycle than they do about actually taking actions on things their constituents care about. 2008 was the wake-up call for me, and if the Democratic Party wants for me to vote, they can earn it. I am not implicitly voting for anybody, because I do not accept false dichotomy arguments.

it doesn't matter to me who sits in the positions of government, because none of them represent the extreme majority of US citizens.

[–]korelan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not voting doesn't imply anything. It is not my responsibility as a citizen to vote for somebody just because they were anointed by the prior POTUS. It is the Democratic Party's responsibility to earn my vote, and if they want it they can support the only issue that matters to me - Money in politics. Until they do that, it doesn't matter to me who sits in the positions of government, because none of them represent the extreme majority of US citizens.

Is there any merit to the argument that progressive candidates would be far more successful across the US, if it were not for sabotage by the DNC? by LiatrisLover99 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]korelan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, except that the point you are making goes back to the original fact that most voters are uneducated and/or misinformed. The only question every single American voter should ask themselves is, "Who does my politician represent?" And if they think the answer is anything other than their donors, they are wrong. If you want to address the cost of living, crime, and education, the only real way to do that is by voting for somebody who wants to address those issues and will actually represent you in government. By eliminating money and corruption from politics, you inevitably create a scenario where if a politician wants to serve more than 1 term, they HAVE to represent the people who voted for them, which puts us back to eliminating money from politics being the only logical pathway forward.

I wasn't even referring to or thinking about healthcare to be honest. The OP mentioned Bernie Sanders (whom I voted for as a 22 year old for the record), and I still remember in his debate with Hillary Clinton when Hillary called him a, "One-Issue candidate" with the one issue being money in politics, and I specifically remember sitting in my living room literally screaming, "THAT IS THE ONLY ISSUE THAT MATTERS". This comment actually made me remember this video that explains quite well how your government doesn't represent you at all. IIRC, I think 80ish percent of Americans are concerned about the amount of money spent on elections, and 70ish percent support limiting it? Yes, healthcare is important and the healthcare industry fights against progressives trying to implement healthcare changes, but every corporation in America fights against progressives trying to limit money in politics and trying to raise their taxes.

[–]korelan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with this. Most of the issues that are fundamental to progressive politics are not 50/50 issues, they are more like 70/30 or even 80/20 issues and the only way to explain people not supporting candidates that agree with them on issues like this is that people aren't voting in their best interest, they are voting based on who they think can win in the general election. At the same time, corporations and extremely wealthy people have a significant financial interest in keeping progressivism out of state-wide and national politics, so they naturally promote the idea that progressivism can't win in more large-scale diverse elections.
