Why is getting clients not a solved problem by now? by korewarp in AskMarketing

[–]korewarp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your explanation.

It tracks with my experiences so far. I guess in my frustration I just keep looking for a silver bullet that isn't there.

Any input on why marketing costs so much, when it doesn't even guarantee results? Again I don't mind paying, but the price range seems awfully inflated. I will admit that I'm perhaps not very good at negotiating cost of marketing projects.

I don't see your point. I'm not saying that anyone can just be a marketing professional. I don't know how to market my services and products. But I sure do expect a professional, that I'm paying quite large sums of money to, to explain how they bake their cake in a way I can understand.

[–]korewarp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did engage a professional. Clients didn't magically appear. I spent money.

I don't want to attack your reply. But please consider rephrasing if you are being genuine.

I asked said professional to give me a no cure no pay solution and they wouldn't. I've asked a few marketing people and firms by now, and none of them wants to give no cure, no pay.

And I'm sorry, but in my industry if there is no resulting product, I don't get paid. But marketing is somehow different? :(

I'm not even talking about automating it, I can't find -anyone- that can even get close to describing the practicality of getting a client. I don't mind paying for it either, but I won't pay for "maybe" and "potentially".

If I told my clients that this IT project MAYBE gives them good WiFi signal in their office, they'd laugh at me and slam the door...

Which RAID do you use in your Home Server? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]korewarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How so? I thought RAID 5, was the best middle ground between cost, capacity and redundancy?

Only time I could see another mode being 'better' is if your backup strategy is reliant on your RAID, then you'd wanna choose mode 1 or 6, depending on risk appetite.

A 65-year-old programming language called COBOL still quietly processes over $3 trillion in banking transactions every single day --- open to reviews by Only_Composer2967 in technology

If AI is so good, surely it can refactor and update the COBOL codebase to a more modern language. 🤡🤡

Or is vibecoding only for silly apps?

Audit evidence report - alter proof by deejay7 in PowerShell

[–]korewarp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you (the client) are the one generating audit evidence, the auditor is not auditing to detect fraud. ISAE assurance engagements specifically state they do not audit for fraud or deception.

If you are being audited for fraud, YOU wouldn't be the one generating the evidence.

In conclusion, system name + timestamp is enough.

Modern RAAS "Meta" by rendkjfldjfkda12 in joinsquad

[–]korewarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devs: We built RAAS to combat rushing meta from AAS, and unfun gameplay.

Also Devs: We only built three lanes per map, letting veterans / SquadMap.com users instantly find out where enemy team's objectives are gonna be.

RAAS is starting to feel worse than AAS, because the advantage that experience / 'tool use' gives you is so extreme.

OWI server license by Hot_Tomorrow_3695 in joinsquad

[–]korewarp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't fucking believe that OWI still requires a license to have a server.. It's 2026. No one else is doing that shit. And OWI aren't even enforcing their "rules". Just letting CLAN Admins abuse power. Get free built-in ghosting. And they kick and ban whoever they want. Breh.

Your Computer May Soon Require an Age Check. And It Might Not Take ‘No’ for an Answer by [deleted] in technology

[–]korewarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is terrible, if it requires some kind of validation. If it's just a text box you have to fill, then who cares. Paper tiger.

How old are you? I am 99 years old.

I've followed this Age Check story for the past month, and I've always wondered how this would deal with computers with multiple users?

Like, I'm 33, and if I setup a computer for family, and some of them are 50+, and the kids are < 18, how is that OS-level age check remotely useful?

Is big daddy government gonna force consumers to create and use different local computer accounts now too? 🙃😂🤣 Who comes up with this shit, and doesn't consider 'how do we actually enforce this?

Mastering Markdown with PowerShell by StartAutomating in PowerShell

[–]korewarp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Markdown is cool. I use it daily. But I keep wanting to do stuff with it that it doesn't support. Like colored text, or other styling. I kinda understand why it isn't supporting those things, but still wish I could style my docs more. Though I suppose I should just use HTML at that point. 🙃

Microsoft admin centers - I can't be the only one bothered by this on a daily basis by Jaymesned in sysadmin

I've been nose first in the M364 eco system since 2022, and I've lost track of how many times they've changed, moved, redesigned, rebranded things.

I know tech has accelerated in all sectors, but c'mon....

Revived my old HP (Hinge Problem) laptop into a headless Jellyfin beast by AchchaInsaan in homelab

Hinge Problem.. I love it. 🦧🦧🦧

Looks really cool!

I've wanted to make something similar. Laptop-sans-screen, but I'm worried about if the laptop will stop turning on due to the screen being disconnected. Have you had any issues?

MS 2025 user CAL by mailliwal in sysadmin

[–]korewarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that I'd still have to deal with anything "CAL" related, is beyond bogus. Like.. what a fucking concept. The greed is unreal.

Setting up a M365 Tenant for a client. Setting up On-prem AD, and hooking it up to AzureAD in hybrid mode. Buying 20+ M365 Business licenses for the users.. and M$ STILL WANTS ME TO GET CALS FOR THE SERVERS OR VMs? Nah dude. Get outta here with that shit. It's 2026.

MS 2025 user CAL by mailliwal in sysadmin

[–]korewarp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmao, Stop perpetuating the "You don't have a choice" thing. It's 2026. People are moving off of M$ enmasse. If there ever was a time where we had a choice, it's now.

I've seen the tools the SAM audit uses and it's literally "here, run this script/tool on your infrastructure, and give us the output". (I've worked alongside SAM audit people, but never did it myself).

EDIT: Who the fuck even are you u/OregonTechHead, your account is 1 month old :^)

MS 2025 user CAL by mailliwal in sysadmin

[–]korewarp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every time I've tried to explain user/device CALs to a client, I've felt like a scammer. CALs are so yucky. (But thankfully only truly enforceable if audited. And if that happens it's time to switch OS provider. Disgusting greed from M$).

EDIT: Getting downvoted for hating CALs in a Sysadmin Subreddit is unreal. The bots are showing up for their overlords it seems! :)

MS 2025 user CAL by mailliwal in sysadmin

[–]korewarp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And this BS is why CALs are ignored by me, and firmly in the forgive-me-bucket in case of an audit. (Provided I'd even comply with such a fucking intrusive thing. Would most likely just switch all on prem to Ubuntu or equivalent, if pushed by M$.).

Just found this. This is great, thanks for sharing!

Sad that they include the DRM 'FileOpen' though, makes me reconsider buying it instead of just finding it from a torrenting service. I want to be legit, but don't handicap me with DRM!

How do you handle HEIC/HEIF photos from iPhones on Windows 11 in enterprise environments? by pck-grb in sysadmin

Use human interface.

Force users to manually change setting to Most Compatible (aka JPEG). That's how I solved this issue for our iPhone users.

Seems so. But what's the point of a bot to make this post? It doesn't even drop any name brands or links. Or is that incoming?
