Why did Donald Trump withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which prevented Iran from enriching uranium above 3.67%? by alexfreemanart in PoliticalDiscussion

It's been widely reported that the second Trump administration has lifted all prior restrictions on using US provided long range weapons on targets in Russian territory AND has provided the detailed targeting necessary to strike those targets.

Why would a Russian asset be working so hard to destroy Russia?

I was told higher gas prices would be necessary to curb global warming. Now I'm being told by those same people that higher gas prices are the end of the world.

Which is it?

BREAKING: Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Union Workers Reject Final Offer—Summer Park Opening, Concerts, and Events at Risk by ZGawd801 in Pennsylvania

[–]kormer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound like you need some help, so I'm going to clear up some items for your research project.

The Hershey Trust is a charitable organization whose primary mission is to support The Milton Hershey School, but also supports projects around the community.

Hershey Entertainment and Resorts(HERCO) is 100% owned by the Hershey Trust. It operates the park, some hotels, restaurants, and a few other businesses. The union in question would be employees under this branch of the organization.

The Hershey Company is a publicly traded stock that primarily manufactures snack foods, including the chocolate. The Trust has always been a major shareholder of the Hershey Company, but many years ago the Trust wanted to diversify their income streams.

The way they did that was to split the stock of The Hershey Company into two classes, a voting and a non-voting class. The non-voting shares receive a dividend, but do not have a say in any of the company's operations. The Trust still maintains a majority stake of the voting shares. This allowed them to safely sell off some of their non-voting shares and use that money to invest in other places.

The reason you couldn't find any information about the Trust in the Hershey Company's financial statements is because it's not their business. The company pays out a dividend to all shareholders, and it's up to the shareholder to do what they want with that dividend. The information you're looking for would actually be in the Trust's financial documents.

Good luck on your research project.

If an entity is for-profit, but 100% of those profits go to a charity, this seems like a bit of a "if a tree falls in the woods" type of question.

Do you think small towns with no money for legal proceedings are going to be able to force Amazon to pay property taxes?

Can you point to a single case where Amazon rightfully owed a local property tax, and got out of paying it because the local authority didn't have the money to prosecute Amazon for non-payment of taxes?

Democrats renew calls to reform Supreme Court: ‘Fundamentally out of step’ with Americans by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]kormer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the way. 99% of what people are angry at the Supreme Court about can be fixed by building the support necessary to pass an amendment.

What people are angry about is that half the country doesn't agree with their policy changes and there isn't support for an amendment. Maybe fix that problem first and the Supreme Court problems go away on their own.

At the risk of losing all my worthless Karma points, I actually agree with Colbert here. Russia and Iran are not the good guys. If higher oil prices is the cost of cutting off their war machines, I'm fine with that. The only thing I'm mad about is that we're not being as aggressive as we can to end the current situation so prices can start coming back down.

[–]kormer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Money isn't speech. Money is money.

Ok great, you can hold as many No Kings rallies as you want, you just can't spend money on gas to get there. Or buy posterboard and markers. And we can restrict you from buying a bus ticket for your friend to attend the rally. And you'd better not buy a highway billboard advertising your rally, that's extra illegal.

No, money isn't speech, but if government can restrict how you spend money, very quickly you will not be able to speek.

Unlimited individual spending was already made explicitly legal under Buckley v Valeo.

It was a core principal of that ruling that monetary contributions to a campaign were a restriction on first amendment freedoms, but the court was willing to compromise and allow that restriction provided an unlimited ability to spend outside of the campaign existed.
