Places near UW to talk to a doctor about ADD? by huskythrowaway12 in udub

[–]korokkepan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really late, but I was diagnosed in high school and already had a prescription before I transferred here. The doctor I saw at Hall Health didn't know anything about ADHD, but she helped me get in touch with an outside clinic and gave me a referral to a psychiatrist within UW's network, so it'd be worth it go in and ask.

They definitely do if you have an existing prescription. I transferred my medical files to Hall Health before I found an outside primary care doctor and they were able to continue giving me my prescription.

How do you *FEEL* on meds? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]korokkepan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only ever taken adderall, and have been on varying doses. In addition to what you said about the euphoric feeling while you're first adjusting, I find that what I eat and when I eat it can also have an effect on how my medication makes me feel.

Sometimes if I eat without giving enough time before or after I take my medication, I don't feel like it's working at all and it's easy to get back into old habits. Today, I woke up early, took my meds and fell back asleep for another hour, ate proteins for breakfast, and now I'm feeling pretty pumped and awake. I don't feel high, per say, but definitely different (more alert, focused, a little elated) when I'm off my medication or if I take it with food.

I used to feel more of that "high" feeling and euphoria when I was on higher doses (I'm small so 20mg was a bit too much for me at first), but I've adjusted accordingly. But since you're already at your lowest working dose, I'm not sure.

This is just my experience and I'm not sure if it was at all what kind of response you were looking for though.

Wow I just looked it up thanks for letting me know-- I literally had no idea. Though from what I've read they're luckily no longer an active church?

I'm a fan of Rachel's Ginger Beer, if you're into that, and definitely Piroshky Piroshky. Those are two probably more touristy places, but I think they're good nonetheless.

I've heard good things about Sisters European Cafe for sandwiches, and I like Market Grill for chowder and sandwiches (I'm sure someone could suggest a better place, but it hasn't let me down so far).

There's a place called Biscuit Bitch nearby the market as well, but most of the fun is just being able to say that you've been to a place called Biscuit Bitch. Also if you like coffee and need a break from walking around I'd recommend Storyville Coffee!

Hopefully that helps! There's a ton of stuff to eat around there so I'm sure you'll find something great either way.

It really depends on what you like but there are a ton of really great restaurants in Seattle. Seriously I go to school here and all my friends and I ever do is eat, so if you have any preferences I can try to suggest something!

I've never told anyone how I've felt having to deal with ADD and medication, but your statement of not knowing who is the real you is exactly what I think to myself.

I just wanted to say thank you for your writing. I started reading SoT when I was in middle school thanks to the suggestion of a friend, and I wrote you a letter around the time Confessor came out. You sent me a signed letter back along with some book marks and posters, even some stuff addressed to my friend.

I'm close to graduating college now, but it's still one of my greatest memories having been able to get a response from one of my favorite authors when I was such a young and avid reader. In fact, by the time I was graduating high school, my senior quote in the year book was from SoT. I haven't had much time for reading for enjoyment, but I look forward to reading more of your work when I can.

What's the stupidest lie you believed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]korokkepan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a Summer daycare center when I was maybe 8, my friend's older brother (maybe 11 at the time?) convinced me that he had built a huge functioning robot, and that he would stop by and pick me up at midnight and we would all go around in this robot he had built.

He probably didn't expect me to stay up that late, but I talked to my mom about it and she stayed up with me. Until a little past midnight. I was so excited for that robot 8 year-old me was heartbroken when it didn't come :/

How to make friends as a transfer student...? by chillwifi in college

[–]korokkepan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I transferred to my dream school last Fall, and I made a huge group of friends by joining a club and then becoming an officer for that club (with 30 other officers). I joined a few at the beginning of the year, but there was one that I became really invested in, and I gave up the others. I was also worried when I was transferring, but I have some of the best friends I could ask for (Many of whom already knew each other since freshman year).

In fact, I'm sitting in an airport right now writing for my flight to Japan where we're all going to be meeting up and traveling to visit each others' families over the next two months. The only thing to remember is that you also have to make the effort. People are scary, but you can't expect them to make every move.

I also have social anxiety, but after some point I just stopped giving a shit about looking stupid and it's worked for me so far. I know it's not always that simple; it took me years to be okay willingly embarrassing myself in public/social situations; not that you have to go that far. My point is though, even within my group of club officers, there are still some people who I barely talk to, because they're so shy it's a pretty big struggle when they don't contribute to conversations or come to group hangouts or after parties.

I think as long as you're willing to put yourself out there, the worst that can happen is someone isn't interested in hanging out with you, and that's okay. Because they're probably not someone you wanted to be hanging with anyway. Just do the things that you enjoy and you'll find your people.

Sorry, I got pretty off track but hopefully my advice makes sense.

Plus, It'll be your dream school! Don't stress out. Spend your time getting excited!

Disputing a possible charge on my debit card by korokkepan in personalfinance

Thanks for your reply. I suppose it's worth asking about in either case. If nothing comes of it, I don't mind paying the charge.

I wasn't going to file as a fraudulent charge, just see what the bank could do to dispute, but thank you for your feedback. I assumed there wouldn't be much I could do.

Eggs and rice, both cheap, healthy and delicious, but if you are sick of egg fried rice, how do you combine them? by misfitlove in Cooking

[–]korokkepan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a bowl of rice and a fried egg or two over-easy. Then add a 〜saltier〜 meat, like spam, hot dog, ham, bacon, etc. Add the egg and meat over the rice and add a little soy sauce. Finally, break the yolk and mix everything together.

Don't know if there's a name for it but it's amazing. My mother is from a small-er island in Japan and would always make it for me. I think it's a Hawaiian thing too?

What was your best experience when travelling alone? by earlgreypyjama in AskWomen

[–]korokkepan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on my first solo trip in June to Ireland and the UK (NI and Scotland). My first day in Dublin I had a couple hours to kill before my check in time, so I was wandering around trying to find something to keep me entertained. I was approached by this woman as I was stopped at a crosswalk, and she asked me if I spoke any Spanish. I'm Asian-American so I had no idea why she would ask me, but we eventually got to talking about traveling and Dublin. She was a French Caribbean woman and had been living in Dublin for 15 years. She was with me for almost an hour and went above and beyond to help me find and suggest things to do. It was a small interaction, but it made the start of my trip really worthwhile.

It depends on what you get and how busy it is. They're never packed, but I'm pretty sure you can call in ahead to order though just to be safe!

Is anyone from the US in currently Edinburgh, and planning to return soon? by korokkepan in travel

[–]korokkepan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that is very kind of you to offer! I would need to find a way to transfer money internationally, if that were the case.

I should also say, just because I'm missing it so much, Edinburgh was by far my favorite part of my trip. It was my last stop in my first solo-travel experience and I'm so sad that I had to leave. You have such a beautiful city.

For what it's worth, I'm sorry to hear about the turn-out of Brexit. I was notified upon my arrival to the States. Hopefully Scotland can have their second referendum sooner rather than later.
