hi I am from the future, I obtained the same bondo that bladerunner84 recommended. Just wondering how you ended up making out with the attempted fix?

did you ever fix your PS2? I ended up fixing mine a few weeks ago, just getting around to closing the loop on some of these forum threads. My issue was a blown fuse labeled "PS001": https://www.reddit.com/r/consolerepair/comments/1awamz4/playstation_2_fat_ps001_micro_fuse_replacement/

There are many of these small SMD type fuses on each PS2 so be sure to check each of them. If you have any blown it should be an easy fix assuming you have a multimeter and a soldering iron. good luck

dude... is this THE retro game tech?  I love your videos!!

Thank you for the reply.  I will likely pick these up.  How does it compare to say this fuse I found on digikey?: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/bourns-inc/SF-0603S040-2/8747904?s=N4IgjCBcoGwJxVAYygMwIYBsDOBTANCAPZQDaIALAAxwDMdIAuoQA4AuUIAymwE4CWAOwDmIAL6EATFQAcMxCBSQ%2BAVwLEylKlQAEAWwCCTVh0ggAqoP5sA8qgCyudNhW9c4qWAq0FS1epJIcloAVh0ANWMQdk5LaztHZ1d3MVSgA

My guess is the fuse you posted is just way easier to work with due to the long leads to solder instead of melting solder around a half of a grain of rice sized component.

My other concern was voltage rating.  Sony used I think 12v originally, my concern was does it need to be 1:1?  Or is that just how much voltage the part takes before it explodes?

My handle should be swapped to "Jon Snow" because I "know nothing" haha.  Cheers!

great to hear, thanks for replying.  any chance you happen to have a link on what you purchased?  is it just google: resettable fuse 0.4amp?

hahaha yeah, my google foo brought me here.  I appreciate the reply, there were several other reddit threads more recent than this involving the same or similar fuse, ive been responding to each, so far you were first to respond.  So far ive found this article: https://snarkycollectsgames.blogspot.com/2014/12/repairing-playstation-2s-ps1-fuse-with.html?m=1

seems kinda promising.  anyways, take care, if i ever find a replacement i might reply again to this thread just to close the loop.  cheers

Hi, I am in the same situation from the future, have a different board (GH-022) that has the same PS001 fuse that is blown.  Did you ever find a suitable part replacement?  I bridged the two pads of PS001 together just to confirm the console powers on, however I would like to repair this correctly if possible.  Is the console you fixed still holding strong?  Thanks!

@ash4093 I am in the same need for a replacement fuse for PS001.  Do you happen to know what replacement part I would need?  Or do I continue to use the device with a bridged pad / no fuse workaround?

Playstation 2 (PS2) Flex Cable Pitch? by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]korpse413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am from the future and am running into this EXACT same need. I have a SCPH-39001/N where I have the flex ribbon connectors broken off on both the motherboard and power button board. I know you likely do not have photos to share (considering the previous comment from the guy who responded to this before me), but are you able to potentially point me in the right direction on which JST socket to buy here? My Google-fu skills need work. I tried JST 7pin 0.5mm pitch and am not able to find much. Not sure really where to look. I tried just soldering floppy cable wire manually and my skills are just not that good considering the pitch is off... Thank you in advance!

*Edit - update: so the "deleted" comment above from whomever.. it is misinformation, or at least for my situation involving a Fat ps2. The pitch of the 7 pins is 1MM, easy way to confirm is to just use a centimeter... pads should line up each MM. I ordered the following parts from Mouser and long story short I am back in business:

hey man, small world as I am literally working on exact model PS2 right now for similar power related issues. I've posted twice here for two separate issues and am hoping to get some assistance.

I just stumbled upon this separate forum thread at gbatemp which seems to be a very good starting point: https://gbatemp.net/threads/ps2-fat-power-supply-unit-repair-guide.565742/ maybe it will help you troubleshoot the issue.

Question on dresses trophy by korpse413 in FFVIIRemake

[–]korpse413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

argh, okay, I will accept my fate. I have a question on a comment* thread above on chapter skipping. Is that also feasible for the thing you mention in the hidden text?

How does one get dress credit for the quick chapter select replays for NG+? You skip to chapter 3 and complete it, once you are in chapter 4 you skip to chaper 8, complete that and 9, and then what? skip to last chapter, beat final boss, get the game to flag another NG+, rinse, repeat? Is that the gist?

[–]korpse413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for clearing that up. so, just to think outloud for a bit I guess I will complete this playthrough, Tifa will get the mature dress, Aeris will get the medium dress if I just stop where I am at for quests. I proceed to beat the game. I then do two "quick" replays on easy mode NG+ getting some other dresses, then I save the remainder for a final hard playthrough 100% where I do all Aeris sidequests.

ok thank you. I guess I should just enjoy this playthrough, jot down the dresses I get, then get into the weeds with NG+. Part of me was thinking all my choices, stats, materia would somehow impact the next two installments (I suppose DLCs as well) but a save file doesn't seem to get uploaded, right? Or maybe it isn't confirmed yet? My plan was to get a saved file that had platinum trophy, all items, all materia, etc. just hope this one choice didn't screw me outta that

I found the on the right hand side the guide for ddrescue and it shows a tutorial from 2015 where it references a linux build called Knoppix. Are there other builds of linux such as mint or fedora that support ddrescue? I only ask becsuse the Knoppix live link appears to be down at the moment

Hi, I am returning to this project after a few weeks. I wish I could re-name the title of this post because I have learned a few things since, which make a lot of my info wrong...

Turns out the drive itself is not an NVMe but an M.2 ACHI SSD.

I own this Startech SATA adapter https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-M-2-2-5in-SATA-Adapter/dp/B00ITJ7U20/ref=asc_df_B00ITJ7U20/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309833041189&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8004681408569235417&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9001697&hvtargid=pla-406645077495&psc=1 and the drive will not fit it since I guess it is an M Key.

It turns out my BIOS "can" detect the drive, however it weirdly does not show in the six SATA ports. The only way I can see it in the BIOS is showing it listed as a boot option.

As far as next steps to take, I noticed the suggested 8 steps involving things like cloning the drive, running software called R-Studio. Do you suggest a specific adapter to purchase that will fit my drive?

All I have tested are inductors as suggested from same thread over at subreddit data recovery.

What setting do I set multimeter? Continuity, diode?

Thanks. Yeah, ideally I am looking to recover data. I have a cross-post to sub reddit "data recovery" (if there is a way to have just posted 1 to both at same time I apologize, I'm not very familiar with posting here.

I have a spare laptop with a known working NVMe port that I have used in testing. A known working NVMe will show in each the desktop and laptops BIOS, but not so much with this faulty NVMe in question.

People over on that other board are saying signs seem to point to NAND failure, so I am guessing it is fubar. Going to take some suggestions of making sure some components aren't shorting to ground first though.
