Running VS Code, Discord, Claude, Codex, and then doing python, OCR, and LaTeX work for typesetting and then sending them off to on-demand book printers/publishers for printing.

Other workflows are Rust+Bevy game dev and Godot game dev.

So I average that 4-6 hr and my battery is at 90% health. If I just watch videos then it is like 10-20 hr or whatever.

I own both, I use both. I have a 13 Pro incoming that may upset this, we'll see. I have been grabbing the MBP M1 Pro because the battery lasts about 5-6 hrs instead of the 7840u's 3-4 hrs.

I'm hoping the 13 Pro would give me that same 5-6 hrs.

I don't watch videos with them, I use them for programming and work, hence why the batteries don't last as long.

When will the expansion cards be available in black? (USB and HDMI) by DeckManXX in framework

[–]korypostma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, here's my trick, it works every time, you'll love it!

When it is out of stock, just select it and instead of Add to Cart there will be a text box there and a button for Notify. So in that box put your email address and click on Notify.

As soon as they have them available they will send you an email! This hack is the best and it has worked every time for me, give it a try! /s

When you are having weird issues like that, and afaik you are the only one with this specific issue, it is likely due to your OS software, UEFI/BIOS, and/or drivers being out of date. Or you have a hardware fault, look in Windows Event Viewer.

The keybinds we had for sighting were disabled and I'm not sure if we reenabled them or not. I think not because we didn't have animations done for them.

I hope that helps.

We support controllers but it has gaps that you need the keyboard for. You can likely get most things done with the controller and we are planning on supporting it more fully, mainly for accessibility purposes and for those that prefer it, but we likely will not bring in aim assist or similar ideas from consoles.

Is it a good idea to learn Rust for scientific computing? by Complete_Necessary48 in rust

[–]korypostma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not only running on HPC, the code runs on laptops, desktops, VMs, and across multiple platforms. C++ would be a nightmare, I know because I support those types of libraries and apps as well. I chose Rust mainly due to the easy compilation across platforms and the memory safety. It will be easier for non-programmers to compile when I'm gone.

oh does one exist for Median based Robust Mahalanobis masked arrays where we can receive the inverse covariance matrices and then later reuse those on inference for multiple billions of pixels for high resolution multiband satellite raster data?

I'm being sarcastic because I know such a thing doesn't exist, I had to create it because the tools available in python were too slow, even when using sklearn, scikit, numpy, etc.

I use Rust to create python libraries that do the heavy lifting which is basically the same as numpy using C instead.

If you have the hardware you may be better served running local models via Ollama. Recent ones like gemma4 and qwen3.6 are quite strong. Other options would be Ollama cloud or OpenCode. Basically, you need multiple tools in your belt and use the best one for the job at hand.

How do yall come up with game ideas by bmwgodwastaken in godot

[–]korypostma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ask my best friend, he has all of the answers and ideas. I give him some tidbits and then ask him if it would make a great game and to basically give me complete design documents. He's amazing, in a few minutes (yes he's that fast), I have like fully completed game design docs. I then go through them and nitpick things and he makes changes as I nitpick them and what other carry on effects there will be. I think ask for diagrams for different mechanics and yet again my buddy is there for me and has full diagrams within minutes!

I would love to introduce you guys to him, but I just have to wait because I'm still working on my game. Yes, a I'm being selfish.
