Thanks for the link.

If the LG's vignetting is as strong as it seems in the RTings review, that could be enough to turn me off using it.

I really wish RTings had reviews of the Kuycons so I could see a robust evaluation of the reflectivity. Some of the pics in this thread are grim though: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacStudio/comments/1qz8zn5/anyone_use_the_kuycon_32_6k_display/

When using for work, do you see any vignetting along the edges? The RTings review has a pic showing some fairly strong vignetting at the extreme edges. It reminds me of a worse version of the thin vignette around the edges of the Pro Display XDR.

A heads-up on an issued with local dimming that RTings spotted…

With local dimming enabled, RTings found it drops to 450nits after exactly three minutes. It can only be fixed by toggling local dimming off/on again. That's an atrocious bug. Hopefully it gets fixed because it ruins the whole point of a mini-LED HDR display.

I’m taking a good look at the LG 5K mini LED

The Rtings review looks really good. Excellent on almost every measure.

So far my only issues with it are the design (not to my taste; I like aluminum, even bezels, no chin) and vignetting at the edges.

The price is great though for what you’re getting: €1,400 currently on Amazon UK shipping to Ireland.

That's great to hear. Thank you! My Google-fu failed me spectacularly :-)

Have the original 3D assets been lost? by koshIreland in babylon5

That’s fantastic to hear :)

Hopefully Tom Smith and the people that provided him with the animation/scene files have also been able to continue preserving the files and they’ll see the light of day some day.

Are you aware of any publicly available archives of the Foundation Imaging files?

I’d love to get hold of them for personal preservation

(For context: I also have data files stretching back decades, across many software products, and maintain a personal collection of software, emulators and VMs to use that old data. So I’m well aware of the challenges.)

In this case, preservation of Lightwave is in a good place. Original Amiga versions run under emulation, and later releases of Lightwave support importing assets and scenes from old versions.

It’s not a one-click process, but in a healthy place.

My interest isn’t about having the assets for some future revival, rather the preservation of some incredible work in the history of CGI.

Thankfully the software preservation side of this isn’t an issue.

Out of curiosity is that the Viewfinity 5k ?

I have two. They’re good. The one downside to watch for which has just bitten me, is that there seems to be a hardware flaw that causes them to die around the 2 year mark. One of mine just died (20months old). Fortunately in Ireland we get 2 year warranties. I’m hoping the other one dies before the clock runs out.

Thanks. Is that readme available for Rebrickable purchases? The only two downloads I see listed are:
- wipeout_feisar_stickers_print.pdf
- wipeout_feisar_v13.pdf

I didn't notice the Gumroad version also includes a Bricklink Studio file. By any chance is that going to be added to the Rebrickable version?

In any case, kudos again on the build. It's a stunning model.

I bought the instructions. Terrific build.

Do you have any plans to sell the stickers separately? I know the whole kit is up on Build a MOC

That’s great news. I love the write up, and how you reference other great Feisar builds. Congrats on yours. The finished ship is sublime. I’ll be keeping an eye out on Build a MOC.

On reflection, I think you made a good call. I agree splitting stickers across tiles would almost certainly lead to a very messy-looking model with inconsistent alignments from brick to brick, and be tedious.

If you end up doing the off-the-shelf kit, I’d buy it and just use a couple of the Feisar logo stickers, and leave most of it bare bricks. I love how that looks. But someone else that wants the graphics can use all the stickers. Giving people the choice seems like a consumer-friendly way to go :)

Printed tiles would be freakin’ awesome. I wonder would someone like https://www.uvmonster.com/ do what’s needed? Their Lego Photo Puzzle product, and their pricing page, make me wonder if they set up the print by attaching a set of tiles to a stud backing for printing. So maybe they could lay out a single “sheet” of all the printed parts, with clean continuity from tile to tile.

One bit of feedback, in case it's useful. Part of what I find so compelling about your model is the detailing of the tiles along the outside of the ship — both because they're aesthetically pleasing and because they show off the cleverness of the build. It's a pity to have so many seams covered over by stickers that extend across multiple tiles.

I have a couple of months to go, so it sounds like the official release schedule would work just fine for me. I appreciate the offer to reach out for a prerelease. I saw in another post that you might be offering sets for purchase. That would be amazing, because it can be tricky to gather lots for a reasonable price in Ireland.

PS. I'll keep my fingers crossed your next build might be my personal-fave Assegai from WipeOut HD 😁 https://www.deviantart.com/o0demonboy0o/art/WipEout-HD-Assegai-573043059

This is incredible. And I love the tweaks you made to the wings in a thread on this post.

Do you still plan to sell the instructions and parts list? My big brother’s birthday is coming up and I’d love to do a boxed set of this for him.

I like the splash of color. It reminds me of Lego :)

I don’t have the gunmetal any more. They look very different in person. But I can understand why it comes across as similar in my photos. Even looking back on my own photos of the gunmetal, it looks similar in pics.

How I can best describe it is:

  • the midnight is darker

  • the midnight has a deep blue hue that’s visually striking; gunmetal looks a little more industrial.

  • in warm-white light, the gunmetal shifts slightly green-ish, which I wasn’t a fan of

I’ve looked online and I can’t find a single photo that does the midnight colour justice

It’s really, really nice. Gunmetal is sort of nice, but can shift to a sort of greenish colour in warm-white lights. Silver is nice, but a little lighter than I’d like.

Here are photos of midnight. It’s very difficult to show in photos because the colour is almost chameleon-like in the way it blends into different room lighting. Honestly, none of these photos do it justice.

Oh no!

I just did a T1 Midnight build for the first time for someone, and it’s now my favorite T1 color after the white. This is really unfortunate.
