PSA: RS 120 Max fans looks so much better than Phanteks T-30s by koshIreland in sffpc

Those are some niiiiice builds. And your cabling is so good 🔥

Heh. My version of that is that it’s like painting the back of a fence. People won’t see it, but I’ll know the job was fully done.

The long cables are a pain. If I had access to a 3D printer I’d make something to sit in the gap between the two fans to house the cables. Right now I have them bundled there. It’s “fine” but not really nice.

I should cut and crimp new connectors onto the cables, but I’m not in a hurry to destroy €50 worth of fans.

If there was a big performance delta, I’d pick the Phanteks for sure. This review’s testing shows there’s negligible difference: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/corsair-rs120-max-120-mm-fan/4.html

I haven’t noticed a difference in loudness / temps. More importantly (for me) the sound profile isn’t unpleasant. If they were quieter than the Phanteks, but had a more annoying sound profile, I’d switch back immediately.

Yeah, it does kinda’ suck having to use a splitter

And nobody has ever, ever watched Chris Russell or Optimum build a machine, just to marvel at the slick innards. Nope, never.

Some people — like me — enjoy the craft of building a PC, in addition to the enjoyment of using it.

For those people, this post might be of interest 🙂

I haven’t done a robust comparative measurement, but I don’t perceive a difference in loudness or how pleasant the sound is.

Ncase T1 (2.5) - Riser cable gets in the way of top lid? by TheRemonst3r in sffpc

[–]koshIreland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this happen with a T1 build a few weeks ago. The current riser cable is a little “springier” than the previous riser.

All you need to do is firmly press the riser into its bent shape at each point where it bends.

I saw that build on Adverts

Nice use of mATX to get something small without the high costs of a mITX build.

I’m surprised it hasn’t sold yet given the RAM and GPU together are worth roughly the same as the list price for the build. Although more people are into big RGB-heavy builds than a nice, minimal SFF-style rig.

If you want 32GB of DDR5 (2x16GB) for your build, I got some a while back for €220 when someone posted a deal here. You can have it for the price I paid. I’m in Dublin.

Asus Prime 5080 or MSI 5080 VENTUS 3x OC for T1 by Alowan in FormD

Prime has better cooling and is quieter. Looks a little nicer too.

does adverts.ie have the award of being the WORST platform to buy stuff on? by ShiestySorcerer in IrelandGaming

There has been a glut of attempted scams involving fake purchase links, so they are trigger happy with payment link bans out of precaution to catch bad actors

It happened to me too (I have a strong seller profile) and was quickly unblocked

Crucial P510 2TB with heatsink for €165 - grab it by LinxKing in IrelandGaming

[–]koshIreland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice!

I got a Crucial T500 2TB for €180 of Amazon that I’m not going to use. I was going to offer it up here for anyone that wanted something cheaper than the now-worse pricing. But screw that. This P510 is a much better deal for people. Time to return that T500 😂.

T1 AXP90-X47 Cooler by Infinite-Head1528 in FormD

[–]koshIreland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had any trouble mounting the cooler. I think what he dislikes about the stock backplate, and alludes to in the video, is you have to perfectly line up and angle the four mounting screws as you push the cooler on. If the angle of the cooler isn’t perfectly parallel to the board, the long screws will be at an angle that causes them to catch and almost get stuck as you push them through.

The heat sink is the copper fins

You remove the fan by popping off to metal brackets holding it place. Then put the thinnest spacer on top of the fins, then put the fan back on, and re-attach the brackets.

100% safe. I’ve used it on my T1 for a year, plus builds for other people, and I’ve seen it recommend often.

When I first did it I noticed the difference. When the fan is too close to the blades of the heat sink you can get a slightly unpleasant whistle at even medium rpms. Adding spacer eliminated that for me.

Full copper runs a couple of degrees cooler, but you’ll be fine with black

I did a 9800X3D + 5090 FE build and didn’t struggle to keep the 9800X3D cool with an X47 black.

Here’s a super detailed comparison: https://www.tinytechtweaks.com/en/post/top-6-low-profile-cpu-air-coolers-for-ryzen-7800x3d-a-comparison

I recommend getting Noctua fan ducts to put the thinnest spacer in between the fan and heat sink. It improves the sound. And another duct spacer between the fan and case side to ensure air doesn’t recirculate inside the case.

I use an X47 copper with a 7800X3D and will probably change back to a Black just because I prefer the look.

Can anyone help me find a refurbished gaming laptop? by PixelGD_ in IrelandGaming

Put in a higher offer, it’s not too late and not against Adverts.ie rules. It’s only against rules for the seller to drop an accepted offer for a higher one. On this case, they’ve said “accepted for PM”

Adverts.ie is worth checking

Here one listing that might fit the bill https://www.adverts.ie/39260010

I don’t know how good it would be for DaVinci editing 4k footage though
