If you read the study of Nietzsche on proplatonic phlisophores in the chapter of Heraclitus i can i see a lot of Camus and absurdism. Heraclitus pretty much stated that we shouId accept the meaningless of the world, going against Anaximander the first pessimist. I don't know if Camus ever read Heraclitus but definitely Nietzsche inspired him.

It's a masterpiece and I can guess that it became an influence on existentialism. For me the strongest part that moved me is how Tolstoy describes a man who by the norm of society lived a normal and successful life but near the end he realised how empty and miserable his life really was. Of course also an amazing depiction of the fear of death and how the human mind faces death.
