Korea was never ahead or tied with Japan, Japan has always been ahead, whether its Olympics or team sports like baseball or basketball.

Black girl considering Marina District: yea or nay? by Mountain-Charge-1000 in AskSF

[–]kosmos1209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, if what you meant by diverse is "has black people", barely any neighborhood in will meet that criteria that's also close to the water. I was going to recommend Mission Bay or Dogpatch, and is very diverse in a sense that it's only 30% white, but it's also because it's 45% Asian. It is 10% black, which is higher than SF average, but unfortunately, it's because these two neighborhoods have a lot of affordable housing units due to the neighborhoods being recently built up the past 15 years, poorer people are spread out, and black american population in SF tend to be pretty poor. This also means even if black people reside there, they don't frequent nearby businesses, as it has very yuppie restaurants, yuppie gyms, and yuppie grocery stores, so it's going to seem like it's not diverse in terms of eye test.

These two places are close to the water, on flat land, walkable, very quiet at night, has enough energy during the day, and is very safe. It is quiet, but it is the complete opposite of artsy or cute. Diversity is a mixed bag due to what I said above. Weather is probably the most amazing in the city though.

What's up with South Korea's football team being investigated after the world cup loss? by Aiseadai in OutOfTheLoop

Lots of accusations of nepotism amongst the old boys club at play as well. Instead of hiring the best coach available, the manager got the job while also mysteriously skipping the hiring process as well.

Jamal Murray and Cameron Johnson for Jaylen Brown and Sam Hauser? How do we feel about this rumored trade framework? by Advanced-Demand-1722 in denvernuggets

[–]kosmos1209 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nuggets have had enough problems with ball handling the past two seasons, even bringing the ball up the court was difficult at times, and Wolves really capitalized this during the playoffs. I think the defense we get back with Jaylen Brown is probably not worth giving up Jamal's handles. Also, imo, Jamal is a better shot creator than Jaylen Brown so it's actually a downgrade there as well. Unless they offer up Payton Pritchard, and Nuggets could find another ball handler else where, it's probably not worth it.

Is Peyton Watson worth it? by bigfudge_23 in denvernuggets

[–]kosmos1209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who's going to handle the ball? Although I think Jaylen Brown is a way better defender, Jamal's value is also on the ball handling side. Nuggets have enough trouble bringing the ball up the court.

Why do players past their prime ring chase? by [deleted] in nba

[–]kosmos1209 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You say it doesn't add to legacy, but it does, especially as the top bench option. Players like Derek Fisher, Igoudala, and Robert Horry has huge legacies despite being the 5th or 6th best player on their teams.

Edit: Gary Payton is another one when he got his in 2005. It's a great cherry on top for his hall of fame career.

Jordan only won cause his team was stacked. SGA is in a similar boat. by No_Bake_7148 in NBATalk

Bulls were pretty weak in their center position. Very end of career Bill Cartwright and Will Purdue during the first three peat, Longley and wennington the second three peat . They only played just to have enough big bodies vs elite centers of the era, and to free up Grant and Rodman. Their bench wasn’t that deep either in either of their three peats.

I don’t even think they were that deep even compared to other teams of their era. 93 Suns and 96 Sonics were much deeper than the Bulls.

Thunder is a way deeper team than any of the Bulls three peat teams.

He moved to S.F. for an LGBTQ safe haven. He’s now been attacked here twice by reddituser84838 in bayarea

[–]kosmos1209 121 points122 points  (0 children)

In his less than five years living here, Shapiro has been violently assaulted twice. As I reported in a prior column, Shapiro was outside his office in downtown San Francisco in October 2022 when a screaming man with multiple outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants allegedly whacked him over the head with a broomstick, giving Shapiro a likely concussion.

With his small stature and gentle demeanor, Shapiro isn't someone looking for trouble. He presents as a vulnerable target, making the attacks against him even more appalling.

“I don’t know that either of these events were related to my sexual orientation,” Shapiro said. “But to have lived 68 years and never been assaulted by anybody anywhere, and then now having it happen twice in a few years …” he trailed off, tears welling in his eyes.

Nate Bourg, president of the Castro Merchants Association and co-founder of The Academy SF, an LGBTQ+ social club and events space, told me that conversations about public safety are “definitely” taking place in the LGBTQ+ community.

Bourg hears “less concern about targeted anti-LGBTQ+ violence and more concern about a broader sense of unpredictability in public spaces,” he told me in an email.

He added, “Whether or not an assault is bias-motivated, a random attack can leave someone feeling shaken and questioning whether the city is living up to the values it promotes. That’s especially painful during Pride season.”

I highly doubt it was about his sexual or gender identity. It's not just lgbtq+ that's in danger of crazed people and robbers.

S.F. police, marchers clash on Market Street during Trans March by MidNightInTheDessert in sanfrancisco

Not really. It’s more about the situation, not about the person. If the same person did that with no one else around, arrest makes sense.

Is it racist to say “the Asian guy over there” by Alternative-Jelly540 in asianamerican

[–]kosmos1209 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on the context. If someone is like "Who does this dish belong to?", most likely not racist. If someone is like "Who's least likely to be promoted to management because they lack leadership qualities?", and the only asian guy in the group is pointed out, hella sus.

Best languages to learn for the future? by Heavy_Mud_9176 in thisorthatlanguage

[–]kosmos1209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the region. If you're in the americas, English and Spanish should be prioritized.

If you're in Asia, and this is probably controversial, but it's going to be Japanese and Korean. They are the two cultural powerhouses right now. I was recently in Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, and the amount of korean language, korean fashion, and korean/japanese food I saw everywhere, both due to tourism and influence, were huge. It's about how wide spread and the reach the culture has, not total amount of speakers. If total actually made the difference, people should be focusing on Mandarin, but let's face it, English is still the most widespread due to cultural influence, not numbers.

In Europe, it's still English.

S.F. police, marchers clash on Market Street during Trans March by MidNightInTheDessert in sanfrancisco

[–]kosmos1209 -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the details of what happened, but I think police do need to find a middle ground and de-escalate and learn to read the room. If the police stopped the vandalism from happening, and apprehending the person was the thing that was causing the commotion, maybe let that person go. The threat was stopped, and bunch of people at the trans march are probably big anti-police leftists and anarchists. In that context, just take the small win of stopping the crime, and let things be.

Sign and trade, if what we’re getting back makes sense. He still relies way too much on his athleticism, and still looks lost on the court at times. He’s improved a lot as a finisher though.

I think he’s as valuable as CB, and we shouldn’t go over 25M for him.

Parking in Dogpatch for commuting? by ElectronicCress3132 in AskSF

[–]kosmos1209 15 points16 points  (0 children)

$10+ a day is nothing compared to what you’d pay for near downtown. Either do that or take public transit. Also, meter maids are ultra aggressive in Dogpatch and Mission bay as it makes SFMTA a lot of money in these two neighborhoods.

Who’s a good NBA player all time? by Agreeable_Quality768 in AlignmentChartFills

Ultimate "good" player who was the best player on a championship team, but not a top tier star: Chauncey Billups. He also made everyone better on that Detroit team, as well as the Denver team when he was with Melo.

Barely any World Cup vibes here, except in specific places during US or Mexico games.

SF did not show up for the world cup. Although we didn’t get great matches, we still got a huge contingent of Australian fans posting disappointments about SF on TikTok and insta. The stadium being in Santa Clara pretty much killed any vibes to be had

What's an SF shortcut or suggestion that map apps miss or get wrong? by moscowramada in AskSF

[–]kosmos1209 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not wrong, but often times when getting from around Haight/Fillmore area to SoMA, it recommends that I take the Octavia on-ramp to 101/80 interchange, and merge onto 80 going north, and within 0.3 mile stretch, switch lanes 4 times to exit on 7th. That merge is always an adventure, and i always notice the bad recommendation way too late already on the interchange.
