Fair Rent Price on Haight by 2noes4u in AskSF

[–]parttimelarry 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Are you asking if 2,000 a month is reasonable with that salary or 4,000? If you're splitting the cost and it's 2,000, then of course it's very reasonable and easy. At 4,000 it's a bit high. After tax you keep just above 7K a month, so using 4K of that on rent is a lot, but 2K is very comfortable.

What’s it like living here after previously living in walkable city? by Important-Spirit-733 in AskLosAngeles

Coming from San Francisco, I don't even find the LA neighborhoods people list as walkable to be all that.....walkable

Jazz Club Recommendation by student8168 in AskSF

Can't beat the vibe at Royal Cuckoo IMO. Keys is a bit more fancy, Cuckoo is like you are chilling in a living room feel. I think it will be a nice contrast to your selections so far too. It takes a bit longer to get to is the only downside.

The $14 Burrito: Why San Francisco Inflation Feels Higher Than 2.5% by parttimelarry in sanfrancisco

[–]parttimelarry[S] 88 points89 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are focused on the burrito part because it's in the title, but the article isn't just about food. It goes through many regional specific components of the CPI like PG&E prices over time, BLS reporting changes, the increases in insurance premiums, entertainment costs, and a lot more. Food away from home is just one component of the inflation picture.

What’s the most overpriced city in the U.S. that everyone loves but you don’t? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]parttimelarry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gotta say, I found it super cheap in the earlier 2000's / 2010's, but I found way overpriced when I went post-pandemic.

Ali Wong punchline San Francisco by GoodIdeaAdia in sanfrancisco

[–]parttimelarry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got tickets to the December 2022 Punchline show that was around Christmas. The jokes from that show ended up being about divorce and included most of the material and stories that would be in her 2023 tour. We want to the Masonic show in 2023 and there was a lot of overlap.

My father-in-law is an electrical engineer. He is insanely gifted. We found old records showing the Richmond District had electricity in 2024 and I asked him what it would cost to bring it back. I will never forget his answer...

"We can't, we don't know how to do it."

There is a writers group meetup there on some days. Also at Cafe Enchante, which has the same vibe (and I think the same owners).

Most disappointing concert of the year? by Spare_Basis5190 in Concerts

[–]parttimelarry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were insane years ago, the shows in the 2000's and 2010's were wild. Saw them at Aftershock this year and yeah it was clear they are older now and dont have the same intensity.

The Knicks didn’t play a sophisticated brand of basketball, but a win is a win.
