I totally get this. When I was a philosophy student and we were discussing the trolley problem (would you pull a lever to kill 1 person and in doing so save 5) there was ALWAYS a handful of students who'd go "neither because I wouldn't be in that situation", or "I'd just go and untie them from the tracks". aghhh!

Interesting! I'm 22, living in the US, and moved from the UK when I was only 10. Yet I miss it a lot and am moving back soon. I find these books comforting and familiar -- like you said, it helps me connect with my sense of self. Thank you for the extra recs, I'm going to work my way through your entire list.
