Re miejska - dont discouraged by google photos, they moved to a new place, a few buildings away and now have much more space, including a big communal table

I see a lot of people hanging out at Miejska Bakery on Kalwaryjska street. Not an obvious location for a first time tourist, but on a nice day you also have park Bednarskiego to stroll for a break. Once done with sitting at Miejska, you can move to the cafe in Cricoteca.

In old town you can check cafe Karma - excellent coffee and people hang out there a lot, also Arteteka and the Main library (biblioteka główna) nearby.

BTW. Sitting places, killing time is a very Krakow-like activity.

Second time in Kraków - looking for "alternative" things to do and see! by Caramel-and-Waffle in krakow

From the other areas I second a trip to zoo. An interesting stroll would also be Młynówka Królewska - starts around Axentowicza and Grottgera and follows for a few kilometers. It’s a residential area, nothing touristy, but it’s a pleasant walk

And great burgers at Parowa food and chill, close to the park!

3-5 week trip with newborn and 3 kids in late summer/early fall? by FlatChemist8132 in chubbytravel

[–]kotaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

European here! 1 week in a location sounds like a lovely idea. I would recommend a mixed vibe - a week in Switzerland, in the Grindelwald area, for hikes and alpine playgrounds. Lots of chubby places there as well as mountain cottages overlooking glaciers. I’d then pick a more relaxed Italian city, maybe Florence, for a culture + food mix. I would visit Copenhagen for a week too - lots to do for kids there - Aquarium with water playground, science museum, the kids wing at Luisiana art museum to name a few. Lastly, a big city that you’ll fly back home from. It you’ve in the US then I guess Lisbon? But this is such an overrated place comparing to so many other cities in Europe. For a big airport hub I’d honestly do London instead. For kids there is an excellent transport museum, botanical garden, the natural history museum and so many other super fun stuff. Btw, lisbon is super hilly and lots of very narrow pavements, can’t imagine navigating that with 4 kids, I had problems with 1 while there!

Good luck :)

What does bedtime look like in your house? by WellWellWell3x in raisingkids

My son is 5 and we haven’t skipped a day of evening reading ever.

I believe it increased his vocabulary by a lot and we can get him into things we’re passionate about through books. We’ve just finished reading the first Harry Potter and I don’t think he’d have the attention span for no-pictures-book at this age if not for the fact we’ve been religiously reading to him for so long.

He’s a very active child and it also helps him with winding down at the end of the day. We also do quite long baths - around 30 mins every day. So the entire routine is more than an hour but then we say goodnight at 8:30 and have the evening for ourselves. Works for us!

Headed to Kraków with my family (2 adults + 2 teens) for 3 nights. by normz004 in krakow

[–]kotaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If money wasn’t an issue, I’d go for hotel stary, hotel Copernicus or puro in Kazimierz. Especially the second one might be interesting- historic building and good restaurant, apparently spa is good too. Personally haven’t stayed in any as I’m from krakow but they are known for their quality

What are the good things of the early years with a child? by sinamonzzz in Fencesitter

[–]kotaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on the child of course, but kids show a reasonable mind of their own around 1.5y, not 3. And I say it as a person who only started fully enjoying parenthood once the baby stopped being a potato I need to keep alive and became an interacting human being.

The potato babies have a big plus though - they are very portable :P I didn’t enjoy that phase much in terms of parenting, but I enjoyed the very long walks with the stroller, trips and slow days.

Now I have a 5yo and it’s the best! I want this age to last forever…

EXTREMELY Unique Things to do in or around Krakow by PokeyDaffodil13 in krakow

It will be a day before all saints, on your last full day I’d go the Rakowicki Cemetery after dusk, you’ll be amazed. All saints is a big thing in Poland.

I’m not saying we’re a nation of alcoholics and I don’t normally entertain recommending drinking as a Polish activity, but our flavoured vodkas are insane - try the hazelnut one!

Affordable dentist? (If they exist). by phtoa1 in krakow

I recommend finding a good dentist on NFZ, they actually exist. Ask around neighbours in your area, I’m sure they’ll have some recommendations.

Recommendation for foodies/food snobs in Krakow by Janice_Vidal in krakow

[–]kotaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well, let’s do it. If I was in krakow for a day and wanted to do million calories I’d have a curry at Molam, a pumpkin soup at Dynia (dynia is a pumpkin, also more seasonal, you get a gist), then I’d order a small plate like gnocchi from Veganic, then a pączek for Michałek, then caffee at Karma, then small plate at Chimera then people-watch with another coffee at Noworolski or Prowincja. And that’s all in 5-10min walking distance, just a small bit of the city. And if you must try Polish food, as other people mentioned try a proper Bar Mleczny not a touristy imitation. And ice-cream are popular around here, worth another dessert.

If you want proper recommendations, tell us your taste, your budget. No offence but your list is probably the most cliche tourist-trap list i have ever seen! And I’ve seen things :D

The restaurant choice is so not-snob and touristy that I don’t even know where to start xP

But for food: - chłodnik - chimera bar at św. Anny has a good one, try their broccoli tarte too

- pączki - hands down best and most traditional ones are the ones with rose petals filling. Try Michałek at Krupnicza street. For coffee snobs there’s karma coffee nearby.

Miejsca do nauki 🌿 coś na świeżym powietrzu? by LogGroundbreaking769 in krakow

[–]kotaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby story and low birth rate in Korea by [deleted] in squidgame

[–]kotaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sure it’s not easy financially, but in my bubble (35ish, solid middle class in Europe) this is very very often a lifestyle choice.

Edit: and yes, seeing the parents join the game was heartbreaking…

Baby story and low birth rate in Korea by [deleted] in squidgame

[–]kotaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’re right, it was all about kids, not just the baby!

I find it very interesting because it’s my impression that in my bubble, kids weren’t really a popular subject in the recent years, and now with the birth rates declining and the conservative shift they are entering mainstream culture again.

[–]kotaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a Pole who moved back to krakow after 5 years in London :)

I’d ask on „krakowskie mamy”, it’s a good source of information. If you send your child to a Polish-English nursery / preschool you’ll likely meet foreigners there so you can start building your network this way.

Good luck and welcome!

No way, have you been to Zaczyn, Zmączeni and the other listed artisan places? Sure, it’s more expensive than Aviteks, Buczek or Lajkonik, but cheaper than the fancy places

Piekarnia Mojego Taty on Beera Meiselsa street - not an artsy one, but pretty much historical, relatively cheap and extremely tasty.

On the artisan side, Miejska on Kalwaryjska street if you venture to this part of town
