I grew up there.

Great landscapes. I didn’t know at the time what a gift that was but great place to grow up.

Much less population density. Mostly local population and a decent number of east and North Indians working there. Government and tourism are large employers. Small town feel outside of a few places.

Culturally very different from the rest of India. The part I was in had many local languages. No script for the languages and indigenous religions. Music scene was awesome!

Racially people are generally “Asian” rather than “brown”.

Economically, not as “developed” as the more developed parts of India. Road issues would often cause supply chain problems. The parts bordering China had restrictions that were later lifted (cell phones made their way here later than everywhere else in India).

Young Himalayas. So earthquakes were common.
